Fires in the heavy rain?

I'm not going to tell you. Mostly because you mentioned the decontamination kit box with the o-ring sealed lid, built in attachment clip, that fits in a ballistic nylon pouch on your belt and will hold...

1 NIP Foil type survival blanket
1 mini-bic lighter (in a balloon)
1 tic-tac box fishing/snare kit
1 P-39 can opener
1$ in coins (include a few pennies, copper not zinc)
20$ in bills (rolled into a really tight tube)
1 mini LED squeeze flashlight (cateyes work too)
1 straight razorblade (or scalpel blade if you prefer)
1 roll copper wire (rip out of a small electric motor)
1 roll dental floss
2 bars trioxane
4 cubes bullion
1 waterproof matchsafe (small..10-12 matches)
1 tiny slipjoint pen knife
1 spot compass (size of a dime- float in water in your palm)
1 golf pencil (steal these at the putt-putt)
1 8x10 folded foil (HD type)
1 disassembled 4 blade broadhead
1 small glass magnifying lens
2 trick birthday candles
2 packets each of salt and pepper
1 set suture and 0000 silk
1 betadine foil packet
4 asprin (not tylenol)
4 antihistimine tabs (Benedryl my choice)
12 water purification tabs
4"x4" fine screen wire (brass or stainless)

It is a tight fit and you have to work at it. When packed and closed, seal it with several rounds of electrical tape, stretch a thick rubber band around that ( swipe one from the broccoli in the store or buy them Milspec). It has many uses as well.

Mewolf can explain the pennies!

So it seems coffee and a fat filled chocolatre bar to restoke the furnace is a good idea for a normal cool reststop?

I,ll keep that in mind about a boullion cube for emergency warming . Is there any nutrition in one ? I have to get some cubes for a recipe I,m working on . I,ll have to try half of one in some hot water so I,ll know what it tastes like in an emergency situation . Nothing like emergency fixins that taste like a well used cat box .

codger,
I am actually floored, I guess your post proves there are no original thoughts, or very few anyway. Replace the penknife with a replacement blade for a boxcutter, and the 4 blade broadhead with a 2 blade Grizzly, and my kit is almost identical, scary indeed.

Copper, being so mallia...so easily bent or beaten into a different shape, has many other uses as well. Dart points, tiny knife blade, solder, fishing spoon (lure), etc.

Bullion is a compressed cube of salty soup mix. Yes it has some nutrition with the salt. Several flavors available.

The trick candles just darn near have to be submerged to extenguish them. There is a wire wound around the wick that is, best guess, magnesium.

You can make up a few of these kits and "geostash" them. Always available when you are afield, great game for kids to find them following maps or "signs" you have left. Then you get to teach them how to use the kits. Don't forget to decontaminate the used boxes first. Wash them really, really, really good, wipe with solvent like alcohol, then dry. The residues inside can be toxic, and don't depend on the drmo guys to clean them. They are 2x3x4"

To heck with a penny stove.

My trangia mini with hi tech cozy, and expensive fuel bottle with integral fuel measure/lid.

Picture outside the cozy showing it's pristine condition.

With the frying pan/lid removed.

And all of the parts laid out, including expensive lighting devices.

Penny stove?? Just get the cadilac. :D

Send me one. I'd like to try it out! :D

I forgot to mention the glover's needle..a large sewing needle.

Chocolate is an excellent addition. It has a secret ingredient that increases brain juice output (seratonin?) and give a sense of euphoria, plus the caffine boost, plus the sugar boost, plus the fats for even more energy. For packing though, try the special dark backpacker's chocolate. It has a higher melt point than a Hershey bar.

And change it out/eat it frequently or you have a packet of chalky powder, sort of like the mars bar I had stashed and I tried to eat it anyway....YUCK :barf: :D I am having much fun with this thread.

BTW penny stoves rock and thanks for the tips about the pennys, never thought of pounding them and using for other uses, probably make fishing lures worth more than the original penny.

Chewing gum wrappers (both the foil and paper) can make good lures too. So does the gum when you are finished with it.

Codger just twenty minutes ago I was thinking of the ship chandlers I used to go to that has neat carbon steel glovers needle . They were only two inch . Thats the size I most often use to sew leather . Ship chandlers is gone and I,m down to my last one .

I actually have a canvas needle with a spear point that is large enough to use as an actual spear point . Unfortunately its curved so I only use it to freak out the ladies at the local needle point convention . Can,t you just see the jaws drop when I pull out an eight inch needle ?

I,m afraid I don,t use much beside a fire starting kit , flashlight , knife , a coupla granola bars and a kickA$$ longbow when I am in the woods . I guess if it was an extended hunt I would include a tomahawk .

I could give you a recipe for a really good never-fail firestarter, but the BATF regards it as a destructive device, Sarge called it improvised munitions. Stick with the bics, zippos, candles, trioxane, black powder...oops! Did I say that?

Codger :p

Tandy carries #1 glovers needles. 10 count:thumbup:

Stainless steel . Bah humbug . L:O:L

Actually stainless is easier to maintain for me . My carbon steel needles rust faster than can be believed . I even heard of using Rosemary in a pin cushion as a rust deterrent . My needles laughed at me and slowly withered away .

Someone suggested my magnetic personality attracts rust to me . L:O:L

Even silver rusts on me . L:O:L
