Firesteel Question

I find that many people try to scrape really fast. Try scraping a little slower and you can get better pressure on the rod.

The old striker was made of chrome plated, base metal with teeth. The new striker is made of stainless steel and no teeth. The teeth really ate up the FireSteel rod. :thumbdn:

Definitely :thumbdn:. I hate how the included strikers would make grooves in your firesteel with use; if it got deep enough, your striker would lock into the grooves as you strike. I know the point was to increase the striking surface area, but the costs outweighed the benefit in my opinion. It was the main reason I switched over to hacksaw blades, knife spines (F1's spine is a beast), and dedicated flat edged strikers.

On a knife like the Vic Farmer, you can strike the firesteel with the spine of the saw blade while closed. I don't like doing it that way because it gets gunk in-between the tools. I'm fine with the stock scraper but the Farmer's awl also works very well.
