All handles are glued to ferrorods. I have carried small one with stainless tube glued for quite some time and it stayed together ...I guess the fat one will too.

It's easy enough. You just need to make sure you don't have a pile of flammable stuff lying around your drill and it would be fine. I have a drill press and can do it for another buck or so if you need it.
Do you know if the one that sparked while drilling works better? Maybe a different mix or change in bit.Half way through this thread I realized I had 3 ferro rods in my bag and I just now finished drilling them. The first I managed without any spark at all the second one sparked and caught some shavings but went they went out causing no problem. I cleared away all wood first and had them clamped in a drill press vise. After the spark up I used a couple drops of cutting oil, no more sparks.

I personally like the ones with the hole in the end. They allow you to put a lanyard on them and get a good grip.
