Hiked up to the site of an inactive fire tower near my place. It's quite an ascent. It was raining at the base of the mountain and snowing by the time we got to the top. Normally the views are awesome, but with snow and mist, you couldn't see a thing! I believe I could have enjoyed manning a fire for a while...

There was a bunch of waterfalls going up:

The obligatory knife porn, SAK, ATAX, and two field guides (tracks and trees - Very cool):

HWTS,

I like it a lot, probably not for everyone, but it has a lot of upside. It is a heavy duty piece of 1095, that can be attached to a piece of wood to make a hatchet, great scraper, hand chopper, and very comfortable to wear.

Great pics..I went out today, saw some of the woods coming back to life, and lots of DEER TICKS..this is something we should talk about before our campout. What to apply (DEET) and how much! Is your buddy coming to the CT meet and greet? Gene

Nice pics. I know all these towers look similar, but that one looks very familiar to me. Wouldn't happen to be on top of Mount Olga, Marlboro, VT, would it?

Gene,

Ticks are a huge problem at my place, we are already back to taking multiple ticks off the kids (and ourselves) everyday... Everybody at my house has had Lyme disease at least twice, we now keep antibiotics at home and take them as prophylactic treatment...

No, my pal is not coming to CT.. I am also in danger of not being able to go right now, my wife's B-day is the 30th and I was planning on celebrating it the following weekend, but her friends might be planning a huge party on the 26th:eek:. I'll know soon...

Captinsano,

Yeah, there a bunch of great trails nearby my place.... It's great!

Iuke,

Nope, its Lennox, MA. My pal and I were pondering how they get the building materials up there: cable and motor, air-lift???

Great pics, Where did you get those field guides? I have never seen anything like those.

Great pics bro, looks a great place to hike, it's always a shame though when the weather makes the views poor eh !!!

Hey that looks like a nice forest area. Where is it? Sorry if i missed where it is I am just slow like that. Got any more pics?

KGD - Yep, there was about 15 other waterfalls during the climb, real nice..

Pit - Yeah the views are normally incredible., go figure, its a fire tower. I plan on doing a fire tower hike in the Adirondacks soon, hope I get better weather.

Bear - No more pics... Shots taken in the Berkshire Mountains (Lennox, MA), I live at the foot of the Berkshires on the NY side.

Orrey

I bought mine from Mass. state park gift shop, they are really cool, pics on side, info on the other, and water-proof:

Very nice shots. I can't believe you had snow! I'm not far from you and it was 50 - 60 degrees today, I was hiking in just a long sleeve shirt. I'm not happy to hear about the ticks, so far this season has been much better than last year and I was hoping that that wouldn't change.

Theonew,

It was 42 degrees F at my house, but it was snowing pretty good at the top of that mountain (cold too!). I guess that is how all those folks have died on Mt. Washington, the temp at the base is not a good indicator of the conditions up top..

I seem to be in a really bad area for ticks...
