Firewood Gathering Season Once Again

It sounds as if Yvsa and the Kamis did a great job. I think the blade should be soft at the tip area if there is any chance it is going to be hitting rocks and dirt. Being soft makes it easier to burnish and/or file the tip back into shape, and minimises the chances of big chipping or cracking of the blade>>>> Howard W

I do too, Howard, though this blade end is so soft it will roll on wood. The 20" AK for instance, will not. But I had a thought- Sanu may have understood the weight and reach of the blade made more force, and so the end was even softer than on many of my blades. 4"+ is alot, though not perhaps for a blade of this size.

Oh Hollow- Cowboy Junkies may be a wonderful band, and an innocent family, but in my experience people who write songs about heroin usually have done it. Margo also toured with one of the big trailor trash countrymusic folk hero's- geeze, the name eludes me. I rather doubt his blood stream was entirely pure at all times.

Now this is an interesting subject, because my favorite, Gillian Welch, writes wonderful gospel and 'Jesus" Songs. She always writes wonderful heroin addiction songs. never figured that out.

Didn't I put some Gillian Welch on one of those? The Cowboy Junkies toured with Townes. One time on Mt. Stage Margo Timmins was talking about how he taught them all to play dice and won all this money off them. They wrote that song Townes Blues about him. They also toured with The Band, cause I saw them once on Mt. Stage with the Band.

What Junkies albumns should I get? I have the one with the loe reed cover and that's it.
Sheesh, Hollow, I could probably sink 500 into music just to get caught up. Hey, WHAT HAPPENED TO MY ZYDECO!!!

One regret I have is that I did not find Zydeco when I was in my twenties. I would have spent the bread to go to New Orleans just to get hammered and dance to that. -from 'munk's confessions'

Zydeco on unlabled MP3 disc. Will take me time to ferret it out.

I have 1 CBJ I can send you. Some of the best stuff is live I taped off the radio. You have a casette player?

Yes, I have the Nakamichi cr3. Hollow, there is a political thread nearby that no one would complain about if you put your pro Kerry sentiments upon. N2 just sharply criticized Bush.

I have to get some more Waits albums, I've got four or five, but haven't gotten anything since he disinigrated in that German pre WWll Caberet parody. God, was that awful, is so bad I can't even handload ammo with it in the background.

Do you mean Tom Waits or Leonard Cohen?

I have Wait's "Mule Variations" his most recent if you want to check it out. Most is good. Also something you might like is "Wicked Grin" by John Hammond. An album by him of all Tom Waits tunes done up in his bluesy style with his golden voice. A great album esp. "Heart Attack and Vine" and "Buzz Fledderjohn"(on an old national steel guitar and hamonica)

No, I meant Waits. I think it's called, "Black Rider' but I easily could be wrong. It is nearly crap. I have 4 or 5 Cohen albums too. He does such a good job, it is hard thinking of another doing his stuff. I like singer songwriters doing their own work- close to the source of inspiration. Townes Van Zandt does himself best despite his or because of his raw wobbly voice.

Leonard Cohen to me is more than even a singer. I don't know a lot about him but besides living in a zen monastery he obviously has a deep interest in philosophy and religion, and not just Buddhist and Jewish. With his lyrics I think he's gotta be channeling whoever wrote the Song of Solomon ;) I can't think of any song that combines the erotic and spiritual as much as Light as the Breeze. And If It Be Your Will has to be one of my favorite "gospel" numbers of all time.

Didn't I say Singer/songwriter? Yes, he has a tale to tell from a deep place. His writings are allegorical and moving. He addresses the psychology of living. He dwells upon biblic themes and jungian archtypes. He writes some of the greatest one liners of all of them.

But for his weakness for women he probably could have made it in politics ;)
