First 8 Gelbu Specials are on their way to new homes.

Yesterday we received 8 Gelbu specials and some other khukuris. I shipped seven of the Gelbu Specials to the first 7 people on the wait list -- more are coming so those who are still waiting take heart. It will not be long.

If you recall the kamis suggested to Gelbu that they make 6 or 8 more of these knives since they were sure we would have buyers for them here. When I received the knives I had to chuckle because it they displayed the way the kamis think when they do not have specific instructions (which they do not always follow anyway).

The knives had assorted chos -- standard, the pariwa ki aka, and a modified version of the eye of the dove. I could hear them saying,
"What if they don't want a pariwa ki aka? We better make a variety."

Also, they sent a smaller version -- "What if somebody wants a small one?"

They were all Gelbu Specials, for sure, but with slight variations.

Bob got the mini version.

Bill,

I was going to e-mail you to see if my envelope had arrived in Reno. Then I read this. I would guess one is en route to me
smile.gif
! Which "Bob" are you referring to about the mini-Gelbu? Regardless, I'm curious. Just how much smaller is it?

Great news which made me to shudder with a question mark in my curious head!

Maa-syaa-Allaah! Is my name listed among those owners of those 7 magnificent Khukuris?

YES! I wish I am one of them ... who else have the same wish as mine?

YIPPEE!!! They're here! Obviously, I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my Gelbu
Special. What piques my curiousity is the
variety of chos Unc alluded to and which
style will be on the one I receive. Really
doesn't matter, I'm going to be happy with
what I get! Enjoy all!

Uncle Bill,

I would prefer the "eye of the dove" cho and would be willing to wait for it if required.

Mike

We have had to wait too long on special orders because of the kidney surgery I mentioned which put us behind two months on the Ang Khola Bowies and CBKC 9 inch khukuris being made in shop 1. Shop 2 is getting it together and pre-thinking our needs which has helped tremendously. Special orders will not take nearly as long now. Shop 2 is within phone reach, FAX reach and email reach. Logistics are not the problem they are with shop 1 so we will be getting orders out much faster.

Four Ganga Ram specials are ready and will be shipped in the next couple of days -- same story with the Ram Bahadur specials. When we get four or five made they will be shipped and will go to customers as they got logged in on the wait list.

About the chos -- I wanted to get the Gelbu specials into the hands of the new owners and for this reason I did not wait and gave no cho preference. I think some trading could be done, however, and this might turn out to be fun.

Keep me posted on your reactions and thanks a million.

Uncle Bill,

When can we expect the Ang Khola Bowies to arrive? And that's FAST for the Ganga Ram specials!

Take care,

The kidney surgery put us behind two months. They had started on the Ang Khola bowies and CBKC khukuris down in shop 1 but then put the projects on hold when the boss had to go to India for surgery. He is able to work part time only at present.

If they cannot get the job done we will do it in shop 2. We have four forges blazing all the time and I think they could do this project in a week or two with the superior people and equipment they have available. I told them we could not wait forever.

We are going to get them one way or the other and in the not too distant future.

Ooooh, that must smart, Bald1!

I was watching to see if it was Irons or you. Hey, try whining and crying on Pala's shoulder and see if it does any good (and if it works - email me, and don't blab it all over the forum til...)

Bill,

Great Uncle! Thanks for clarifying which "Bob"!!!

Rusty,

I'm absolutely fine with it. Matter of fact, I had worried that Bill was trying to do me a favor, when in all honesty I've craved a khukri with somewhat longer reach than my 15" AK since we got the 18" variety threads started early this year. The 18" Gelbu Special leapt off the page and supplanted my growing conviction to go with a 18" AK over the other 18" models Pala and Bill have introduced this year. Accordingly I'm quite relieved. I have no doubt in my mind that the 18" Gelbu Special is what I've been looking for

!!! I couldn't be happier for both "Bobs"

Uncle Bill,

Gotcha! I guess if I would have read a little closer, I could have surmised that.
smile.gif
It really sounds like Shop 2 is in a whirlwind, and only getting stronger. Is there any animosity between the two shops? Could we see a "Khukuri Olympics" come out of this?
smile.gif
Just imagine, the best of Shop 1 and Shop 2 getting together, beating steel, and making more beauties.

Take care,
John Johnson

bald1,

I am relieved. I was concerned about this. I couldn't respond earlier because that was Bill's prerogative. His email told me my mini Gelbu Special is a little shorter than the rest. I believe he said 17 1/2, but not positive on that.

Since this will be my first HI Khukuri, I await it with great anticipation. My only concern now is that my wife will wonder why I'm smiling so much.
wink.gif

My wife didn't really say much about all the smiling. She didn't even say much when I started chopping down all the trees in the neighborhood and piling them in the back yard. (with my Ang Kohla and 800lb. Salyan of course) She only became concerned when on a dark, clear night I lit the wood pile and with a khuk in each hand began dancing and chanting. (come to think of it she hasn't come back from her mother's yet.)
Any room left on the farm Rusty?

Mike

Well, if you could pick up Yvsa on your way out here......

Well, the mail has ran for today and it didn't get here.I imagine it will be Monday now. I guess that still gives me something to look forward to a Monday for though anyway.

Uncle:
You said some of the Gelbu Specials had a modified eye of the dove cho,I believe. Was this also an enclosed cho or was it open like the standard cho?
I don't think it will matter as long as the one I get is enclosed, but we will see.
I will be wanting to trade also if it is a standard cho.
Oh the anticipation.Just like a kid at Christmas time knowing they're getting a new bike or BB Gun!!
I am enjoying my second childhood.(vbeg)
