Hi Guys,

A lot has been said about how to make knives in this section, but very little mention of shop first aid. Let's hear some suggestions on what to put in your first aid kit for having on hand in the shop.

I am going to look at getting an eye wash station to add to mine.

If a man can keep alert and imaginative, an error is a possibility, a chance at something new; to him, wandering and wondering are a part of the same process. He is most mistaken, most in error, whenever he quits exploring.

As a former firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician, I would recommend the standard trauma kit for shop emergencies. Of course, there are always the exceptions...
Duct Tape: a must have. the fourth force in the physical world, if it can't stop the bleeding nothing can.
Cyanoacrylate (super glue): for those little injuries that just won't close when your hands are wet. Burns a little at first...
Bag of frozen peas: the ultimate in a cold pack. Adjusts to form fit body parts, cools well, can be used again and again.
Finger cots: Use em!

A couple of suggestions; Silvadine cream. Expensive, but worth it, tell your doc to write you a scrip for it next time you visit. Explain you make knives and get burned frequently, and he should have no prob with it. For those of you of an organic bent, a aloe vera plant by the shop works almost as well. Of course, if you get burned bad enough to break or char the skin, go to the ER. And strangely enough, bum a couple of Maxi Pads from your significant other. best thing in the world to stop serious bleeding while you get thyself to the doctor. They also avoid the painfull process of picking lint, ect out of a cut.
