Here is my first Antelope. I took it with my 62# @28" Caribow Taiga Recurve with a 675 grain arrow tipped with a single bevel Ziwiky broadhead.
Had a complete pass through on a quartering away shot. No blind or cover, the only thing I had working for me was the rain and the 30-40mph wind.

Congrats!

Thats awesome man. Any animal taken with a bow is something to be proud of, nailing an antelope with a recurve is taking it to the next level.

I read an article that said they developed their extraordinary speed to evade the now extinct North American Cheetah. Apparently it was pretty close to the African Cheetah so evolution favored really fast 'lopes. The article also said that because they evolved mainly on open plains, they aren't inclined to jump and aren't as good jumpers as you would think.

I'm impressed....taking one in the open with a bow is no easy task. Congrats.

I hate them damn goats, they cause more accidents in this state then drunk drivers.

In their defense there are more antelope here than there are drivers, sober or drunk. ;) Actually I'd be surprised if deer don't cause more accidents, I see a lot more dead deer by the side of the road than I do 'lopes.

They are fast, they can run 60mph for hours at a time. Believe it or not they crawl under fences rather than jump them.

The article I read mentioned the under fence crawling, which I don't think deer would typically do. I don't have much personal experience because most of the antelope and deer I've seen have been in pretty wide open, unfenced places.

I heard only the cheetah was faster.

I shot him right around 25 yards. At one time I had him and his brother at about 20 yards but could not move until they truned away.

I don't think I've ever seen a deer crawl under a fence....they always jump over them.

I believe your mistaken on this one, no animal can run 60 mph for an hour. But you knew that.

You're right, I hit the wrong key. :o 60mph is their top speed and their sustained speed is around 30mph.

dipbait: Yes, scientists believe that the extinct cheetahs could outrun antelope for a very short distance but unless they got their prey quickly, they ran out of steam and the antelope just cruised away.
