First AR!

I just ordered the parts I needed to finish my build. With any luck I'll be at the range next weekend zeroing the sights.

My carbine is going to be a BCM/LMT mixmaster. Here are the parts I have -LMT complete lower
BCM complete 16" carbine upper
BCM handguards
BCM charging handle
BCM bolt carrier group
LMT BUIS

Can't wait. I now have the pistol (1911) and carbine checked off my list. I only have my shotgun (Remmy 870) and MBR (M1A)to go.

The UPS man dropped off the last of the parts I needed this afternoon. Here's my completed rifle. Sorry for the poor picture, but I only had my camera phone on hand.

I've already decided my next AR15 will be a midlength, probably with an upper by either LMT or BCM.

The standard 1/9 twist many AR's have works well for me on a 20" barrel, but for a middy or carbine I think I'd rather have the current USGI 1/7.

The twist rate has nothing to do with barrel length, and everything to do with the weight (actually length, but it's a function of weight) of the projectile.

1:9 is good for bullets up to 62 grains. 1:8 is the best rate for bullets from 55 to the mid-80s, and should be your pick if you have the choice.

The military went with the 1:7 because the 1:8 is ideal for the 62 grain M855, and the 1:6 is ideal for the super long (103gr?) 800 meter tracer ammo, so they split the difference.

Nice rifle, LMT makes a good gun.
Is that rear BUIS the one that is basically the rear end of an A2's carry handle sight? Can't tell from the pic.

Thanks. This carbine is actually a LMT/BCM mixmaster. The rear sight is a LMT, and you're correct, it's basically a chopped off carry handle.

I am actually about to get my first AR as well, im going to a Daniel Defense flat-top Upper (as made by PK firearms) chrome lined and the barrel has a 1:7 twist, and a R-Guns lower with mil-spec buffer tube and Magpul CTR stock, and Magpul MBUS. Im pretty excited and I have been saving up my tax return!
