First attempt at a leather sheath...

VERY informative post, thanks. I always like seeing how other people do things to compare to mine. I used rubber cement on a wallet and on the spacer pieces of the 70% done sheath I have....I just need to fold it (taco style), sew it shut, sew/attach a belt loop and then form the leather around the handle. Then I would have to dye it.....

I used veg-tan leather from Tandy and not a nice leather like that. I got some leather like yours to make myself a strop for straight razors. I'll have to remember the scraps for a sheath!

Belt loop is sewn vertically to the main sheath when I do the stitches, I start at the bottom and stitched through all four layers all the way up to where the loop starts. The collar goes on around that.

Wet form the collar to the knife handle. It's quite tight, I can hold it upside down and shake the hell out of it and the knife does not come out.

Ah, I got it that makes sense.

I've never wet formed leather....you just wet the outside and then mold it with a rounded object or something else (like the end of a spoon handle with a half-circle of solid plastic at the end)?
