This is my first attempt at a real knife of sorts. I've just been making bird and trout's up until now trying to get the feel for my hammers and every time I fire the forge up I learn something new. This one was made in one session out of a bastard file. I think it took me about 5 hours from start to finish as far as form/file work/heat treat (ATF). I already have a couple design issues to pick with it but would like to hear from you guys since this site taught me bout everything up until now with the exception of a couple books.

Wish I had a better pic of the file work cus it looks pretty trashy in the photos but it's not that rough.

Thanks,

Looks better than my first! I would change the choil, might get cut like it is, but with that being said keep up the good work!!!

Thanks! That's my fit with it too. I was kinda fighting it the whole way. I was worried about hammering out the front of the handle to thin behind it to create enough space so the hand wouldn't slide into it. I've got a giant 1" round bar of 52100 I'm gonna get started on after I beat all these files up for practice and then it shouldn't be as much of an issue because I'll be starting with more of a blank slate. But I'm also going to build one of those HF pneumatic presses to forge it down quicker first. Then a belt grinder build as well. Right now I'm functioning on a sub 100 dollar budget. Anvil and forge and HF hammers. Worn out files. With the exception of that round bar which was like 75 bucks.

Good job. I would not be too concerned with file work when first learning. Many times if the fie work is not top notch it really does nothing for the knife. Great job though.:thumbup:
