If you don't want to buy extra equipment for flaring rivets, I would suggest using Chicago screws instead. The biggest plus to using these is that you can easily remove them if you need to make tension adjustments, etc. to the sheath. Bear in mind, I have never used rivets, so I can't speak much for their virtues.

I actually bought some Chicago screws from Knifekits.com at the same time that I ordered my Kydex, however I found that the heads are spaced too far apart to hold .080 kydex together. It appears that they would work well if you were using 3 layers of kydex, but not the 2 layers that I was using.
I ended up buying some flat black model paint and painting the rivet heads black last night. Looks great, we'll see how well it holds up, my expectations are that it woln't hold up for long, but the blade and sheath are "users" so I'm not too concerned about pretty.
