First Becker: BK14

Congrats. You'll grow to love that knife for sure. Give the factory handles a try too, they turn it into a whole new knife and they're very affordable.

I love my BK14 or should I say 14's. I have quite a few that get stashed in various bags, but there's always one on me. My favorite small fixed blade for sure. I've owned fixed blades that were vastly more expensive, but the BK14 just gives you so much knife for what I feel is so little money. Great design and very durable.

Congrats! My favorite fuzz stick knife.

My first Becker was a 14, which led to another 14, then a 24, then a 9 and then an 11 and scales for all of the small ones...

Can't say that it'll stop anytime soon.

In fact here is my first 14 yesterday. Slow day at work.

Thanks for all the nice comments. The wraps not all that hard to do. I followed a YouTube video for izula wrap. I am definitely going to get the handles too. I'm going to keep this wrapped for a while and then switch over to them eventually.

Whats your guy's opinions on stripping? Do you usually only strip the blade or do you just do the whole entire knife?

I think that's the answer I've mostly seen, but I do see others what are fully stripped and I was curious as to hear why.

Congrats on the 14.
If I could only have three Beckers, one of them would be a 14.
The others? A 9 and either a 16 or 17. Latter depends on the mood I'm in.

I like keeping the coating on the handle to protect it.

When I stripped my 10 and 14 recently I had originally decided to strip just the blade and leave the coating on the handle for protection. After doing some more reading on the subject I decided to strip both knives completely. Some people have reported that the coating they had left on the handle section had started to flake off after stripping just the blade. Since I will occasionally be using my Beckers for food prep in didn't want to end up eating any of the coating material. I forced patinas on both my blades after stripping which will offer some rust protection. Beyond that I'll just have to be more careful to prevent rust from forming under the scales.

Thanks for your reply. I am back and forth about what I am going to do when I do decide to strip it. I appreciate all answers.

Congrats! I bought a BK14 for myself, my wife and all of my children for Christmas when they first came out. I really love it and wear it everyday around my neck and I mean everyday. I even wear it to church. I just feel undressed without it now. I used the cord that came with it with a barrel cord lock to secure it around my neck. When I get home from work today I should find a new BK2 in the mailbox.

congrats on the new BK!! as others have stated, they're VERY addictive. AND, thank you for helping me make my mind up! My next Becker will def be the 14. That awesome job you did with the paracord sold me

I did enjoy it last weekend when I wore it on my belt all weekend. I unfortunately haven't worn it this week with school starting back up.

Keroscene, Thanks for the comment about the wrap. Glad I could help make up your mind. I have to say I originally wanted blue as I saw a picture (I believe on here) of a bk14 wrapped with blue paracord, and it looked amazing. When I went to order the cord I was not sure what color blue would produce the color I was looking for. So I decided to go with the red and call it good. It turned out amazing I think, and I really like the overall look of the knife.

Exactly. You NEED a 9. And you also need a 16 or if you can handle the awesomeness, a 17.

You just can't not have a 9. A certain shop in the woods gives free apple fritters to owners of a BK9. A BK9 will decrease your chances of a meteor killing you. You will have no enemies and there will be nothing in your way. Why? Why you say? BECAUSE THE 9 IS KING!!

'Grats on the 14, though. It was my first Becker, too.

In my case that was mainly because I was stupid and didn't think it through.
It makes for more maintenance, but it's doable.

I see you have started the thread as to everyone needing a 9. I do like some of the reasons. Thanks for the compliments guys.

So are you going to fully strip? I did my 11. Dont see any reasons why you wouldnt. The only issue was that since there wasnt any coating, some rust did start to form in the small holes and bottle opener part where it was hard to clean but the 14 and 24 dont have that design so you shouldnt have a problem keeping it rust free.

Also if you strip it are you going to force patina?
