First Becker ordered, need left handed necker sheath and have a question (BK11)

The knife fits snugly in the sheath and the sheath sans thumb piece does have good retention. I only removed the thumb piece for pocket carry. I'll replace the thumb piece for neck wear, but I foresee predominantly pocket carry. I find the sheath perfectly fine for pocket carry. I have no feeling whatsoever of a need to order a different sheath just for pocket carry. The wide profile of the standard sheath works quite nicely in my pocket.

I'm most impressed with the quality of this knife. The bevels are even and well formed. The knife was paper cutting sharp but not shaving sharp out of the box. Only a few minutes on the hone took care of that.

The KA-BAR scales are a perfect fit. The only issue I had was accentuated by the fact I'm left-handed. Thus, the bolt protrusions through the nuts of the scale fasteners, although somewhat recessed, were at my fingertips rather than pressed into my palm as they would be were I right-handed and that was a little annoying when gripped. I considered grinding the ends of the bolts so as to be flush with the outside face of the nuts but discarded that idea for several reasons. Instead, and lacking small thin washers to use as shims, I made small plastic washers to incorporate into the bolt/nut handle assembly. Considering the handle contour, I used one of these thin plastic washers under the bolt on the front nut/bolt and one under the nut on the rear nut/bolt. Now the bolts terminate flush with the outside face of the nuts and the depth of the nuts in the handle are the same for both nuts. The depth of the bolts on the palm side is much different between the two, but unnoticed as that side is pressed into the palm of my left hand.

The better scale fastener choice, IMHO, would be round screws that terminate flush with the handle surface on both sides. The screws on either side of the handle would screw into a threaded sleeve between them. Just a thought.

I have dozens of traditional pocket knives of various patterns, steels and cutlery makers. They will now be fighting with this BK11 for pocket/EDC time. I really like this knife.

Yep, I really do like this BK11 knife but as I mentioned in an earlier post in this thread, I also have a BK24 and third party G10 scales on the way. Tracking indicates I should have them Monday. I had also ordered the BK24 factory scales. Next week, we'll see which configuration as well as which knife I favor most.

The added "washers" I made and configured in an offset way, made both nuts as near flush with the scale surface as possible, but not only that, the little bolts don't poke up and annoy my finger tips as I use the knife left-handed. Just a couple less hot spots in the grip.

Seems like your really liking your new steel! Congrats!

I have used my BK-11 in tons of ways and it really is a great knife for a large portion of knife related tasks.

I 2nd getting a leather scout sheath from Coyle outdoors. I have had mine for almost a year and I have not carried a folder (except for at work because they are scared of fixed blades) since. Tate has followed up with me numerous times to make sure the sheath was performing as expected.

I look forward to seeing more action with this knife and any of your future Becker knives.

And ... it's here WOooHOoo !!! The G10 scales won't be here until Monday though.

G10 third party scales arrived today. Nothing wrong with them and they are as pictured on the site that sells them. I do however prefer the configuration pictured above with the orange factory scales.

I prefer the scale's mounting hardware with the G10's over the nuts and bolts of the factory scales though. The G10's incorporate 4 tapered head round screws with a threaded tube between each pair of screws. The screws mount flush with the face of the handle. Wish the factory handle mounted like that.
