First Becker. What wood should i get?

I am new here but i have been reading alot. I will be getting my BK2 tomorrow and i already have a plan of stripping her and forcing a patina. I want wood scales i know tommy has some fine scales but what wood should i go for. If you guys could post up some pics of his 'wood' and what type of wood it is. All the help will be much appreciated.
Congrats, bk2 such a good choice, for carrying just one blade, nothing better !!!

My first was a BK4 from a gaw here. And it's pretty amazing. As to wood, I'm really partial to burls. I like detail and contrast. The types however I don't know much about. I really like some of the Ironwoods that I've seen, but the are a bunch that are very good looking. No matter what you choose, it'll look great compared to black synthetic.

I have read people dont like it being so heavy really doesnt bother me. I have had it on my belt since i got it and i barely notice. I guess if your counting ounces. Thanks for all the input guys great forum we have here. I ordered some rosewood last night should have it by the end of the week i will post up some pictures.

Ordered two from Tommythewho after reading this thread. Decided on Ipe and dark rosewood. Can't wait to get them.

I am in the same boat just a waiting game now. I emailed him to see if the photos posted on the bay are my handles or just a stock photo he said the handles pictured in the ad are the handles that are being shipped. Very excited for them to make it halfway across the country.

I have Brazilian Ironwood from Tommy for my BK-9, they are fantastic scales that add both comfort and style worth more than what you actually pay for the scales.

As a beginner knife owner, I have no really good pictures of the scales, all of them are too bright or too dull to really show off the scales' beauty.

I think you nailed it with that photo. Very nice. I guess i am a beginner knife owner as well. I am 25 years old and have owned knives since 15. I have everyday carried for the last 5. I am just now getting my sharpening game down for pocket knives. These are a little trickier. I have an old case ceramic v that is set to 20 degrees helps alot. Still weary of taking my becker or kabar fighter to my dmt diamond stones.

My first (and still only) Becker is the BK7, and I love it the way it is.

But I must admit those wooden scales do look very tempting!

I got my new scales from Tommy last night. Will install this weekend and post up some pics. Agree with the above pics don't do them justice they are real beauties!

I ordered mine last sunday they finally made it to chicago. Should get them today. Fingers crossed.

Got my scales these things are beautiful. Amazing craftsmanship. Tommy is a magician to turn a lump of wood into this.

Couldn't agree more. I am very impressed with these as well. Wish I had gone wood before buying the micarta although with four big Beckers my 2 and 5 can have the micarta scales. Tommy thank you!

Will have to post a family pic soon. I now have the 2, 5, 7, 10, 13, 15 and 17. Four on micarta and these two on beautiful rosewood and ipe scales.

I do love this thing it is a trainwrecker. Cant beat a 1/4" slab of 1095 crovan. I want to get a 16 next but wish i could get a saber grind. I guess the full flat grind is more functional.

I guess it depends. Do you want Beautiful or a hard use wood. I like highly figured Fiddleback Maple for Beautiful and Lignum Vitae for hard use.
