First belt grinder, so happy.

So I found a 1X30 inch grinder on a local site and I picked it up.
I was utterly amazed at how clean and professional I was able to cut the bevels on the first knife I tried it on. I was using a bench stone before and it was rough at best.
I realize a 2 inch belt would be better, as well as something longer so the belts last longer. This was a big improvement however.

Is there anything I should keep in mind?
I plan to make a jig out of a piece of angle iron with a bolt I can screw through, to set different angles on a knife attached to it. Is that type of jig truly that simple and straight forward to use?

Each time you improve your tooling, you'll be equally or more blown away by how good the new tool performs relative to the old one. A 1x30 may be a substantial improvement over what you had, so congratulations, but don't pat yourself on the back too hard just yet. Learn what you can with the tools you have, but work toward a 2x72 as fast as you can, then you'll really understand the improvement you think you're seeing now.
