i believe im going to buy my first benchmade. Im pretty sold on the mini afck but looking for feedback and i know there is some good out there??? kinda like that osborne reverse tanto too cant remember the number

Everytime that I decide I'm gonna buy my first Benchmade, I always decide on the 921 Switchback, but at the last minute end up getting another Spyderco.

One day, however, that 921 will be mine!

Good luck on your quest.

My first Benchmade was the 550 Griptilian. It is an awesome knife for the money. 440C steel, Axis lock, nice solid handle. What's not to like?

I love my 420 Resistor. Especially since I Waved it.

I've got a good friend that got one of the Griptilians in D2 (I think that Cabelas is the only place to get these). He definitely does not baby his knives, and has been very impressed with this one. I looked it over pretty close myself and decided that one day I'd like to get one as well.

I really like my Gravitator so far. Definate cool factor. As a first Benchmade however you almost have to go with the AFCK. When people hear Benchmade that seems to be the one that immediately pops into their head. I've got one of the older ats 34 liner lock models that is in my EDC rotation and is one of my all time favorites.

The mini AFCK is a great knife but the clip placement may bother your grip. I really like the mini Griptillian and the 856 (which are now discontinued but not too hard to find).

AFCK minis are hard to find. I'd go with the full size AFCK (also just discontinued) or the 710 or the Grip

Grip was my first one, I've gotten few more since. Can't go wrong with 550 though!

I cant speak for the mini afck because I dont own one, but I do own a 710 and it is one of my favorites.

I just think that whatever Benchmade you kick it off with, you get something very benchmadeish. That would be with an axis lock....something very distinctive. The designs are top notch quality and look cool, but the main reason I wanted my first benchmade was the axis lock, and I haven't been dissapointed. The cool factor grows old, but the actual usefulness stays there.

It all depends on what style of knife you like best. If you like tactical style go with an 806 AFCK or a 520. For a good solid user that is a great value the Cabelas D2 Griptilian is an easy choice. If gents folders are your thing then a 960 or 440 fit the bill nicely. Benchmade makes great knives in many styles, I say go with your favorite and you will not be disappointed.
