first blade issues

You can usually order from NJ Steel Baron, Alpha Knife Supply or USA Knife Maker with relative ease. AKS' labels 1080+ as 80crv2(IIRC they called it 1080+ first) and is incredible stuff. You can get email updates from Chuck on when it comes in stock(BTW Its almost never out of stock)

Just check NJ Steel Baron and Alpha Knife Supply and they both have a lot in stock.

Personally after using 1080, 1084 and 80crv2 i much prefer the latter of the three. Seems to get harder, easier and hold it's edge better. I've hammered thin kitchen knives through blocks of wood to test it. This was heat treated and tempered to the high end of the hardness.

15n20 could be another great option for you and its very easy to get. It heat treats like 108x series too.

I looked at a few sites, but the only one that had 1084 in stock was USA Knifemaker, and all they had left was 1.5 x .200 and .270 So I bought a bar each. A little thicker than I wanted.

I'll check out the other sites right now, and get me some 80crv2. Might as well try all the steel I can, and see what works best for me.

Thanks!

You might also want to check High Temp Tools. Just ordered some 1080 for a good price. You will have to email Kelly Cupples from that site.
