This was a blank i bought 440 steel i had a few problems but i know its all trial and error . the handle is fiddle back maple with some birds eye in it . I will buff with white handle polish in a few days. The thong tube was tight and caused a couple small cracks but hardly noticable and dont do right through the wood. The blade is so sharp its scary lol. My next one will be better.I had some inspiration from Robs wife marlyn after I was the lucky SOB that won the contest rob put up some excellent prizes. Thanks rob and marlyn .

Your hollow grinds look great to this noob. I'm skeered to try that as yet.

Looks good, I would skip the buff unless the handle is stabilized, probably just make a mess. Sand up to 1000 and use a good oil. Just a suggestion

I sanded to 600 and then buffed with green to get the scratch marks out of the nickle silver pins and a small boo boo on the bolster .When i buffed I think i heated up the wood and left a dark mark .Is that a burn my grinder stalls out with the slightest presure so untill i know buffers i would say thats pretty safe. I will go get a 1 horse soon this 6 inch 1/2 inch wide buffing wheel shouldnt stall out like that with the slightest presure.I might have to sand out the dark spot ? kellyw

I think the dark spots are a combination of buffing compound and metal taken off the bolsters. I got that a lot with my early handles when using maple. I can usually take a rag or tissue soaked in Linseed oil and "wash" it out.

These days, I use masking tape to cover the wood when I'm polishing bolsters and vice-versa when doing the wood. It cuts down on the dark staining a lot.

I try to always hand finish wood. It helps prevent burning and staining. The masking tape advice is good. You should also mask between contrasting woods (like maple/ebony). It keeps everything nice and clean.

turkey shooter i never ground the blade was done i hope i can do this good soon. I only really did the handle and some buffing.I would like to thank you guys for your comments and critisizm i dont mind at all thats how I will learn if you guys are honest.I like the tips on the maple it does burn easy .
