Hello all....I have some questions about a Buck 110 Ion Fusion. It is also my first Buck.

I'm read the other threads about Ion Fusion here and I still need some info. The first thing I would like to know is exactly how to sharpen one of these. Can it be sharpened like any other chisel ground blade?

How collectible are these knives? I'd like to use this one but have many....many other knives to use if this one should kept in the best condition for value concerns.

thanks for any info you can provide.

Follow the instructions that came with the knife! It can only be sharpened on one side!!!! The ionfusion edge must not be sharpened!!!
They are collectible, but they also cut like no tomorrow. With that said, I collect them, but I use my 110 Ionfusion as one of my EDC knives.
It is well worth using. But if you want to save it that is O.K. too!
I will say that collectors of the ionfusions/buckcotes are few and far between. There seems to be more as time goes by though...

When I sharpen mine I use my lansky and just put the bevel on one side.
Good luck! You will love it!!! Hey how about a pic or 2??? :D

Congrats by the way!! Good way to start off with your first Buck knife!!!

not very collectible..... just a few wacko Ion Fusion fans out there..... ;) ;) :p

Just kidding, couldn't pass up a jab at our resident Ion fanatic :p :p

I bought the knife used with limited paperwork. I looked on the Buck website but couldn't find any info. I'll bust out my Lansky and give it a shot. I'll put up some pics this weekend but it looks to be a normal Ion Fusion 110 with Rosewood handles.

If it was used already I would definately use that baby!
Keep us posted! Good luck

Sorry for the huge pic, but now you can read it...
You could also send it in to Buck they will get it sharp!

Good luck.

If you cover the edge with ink from a felt tip marker, you can make a pass or two with your Lansky and keep adjusting it until you see the angle is just right to remove the ink and thus, "sharpen" the ionfusion blade. I know this may sound strange but it does work!!

thanks....it is much appreciated. I do think I'm going to use this one since it wasn't mint to begin with. I got the original black leather sheath with it as well and it's looks brand new. I think I got a good deal at $35.

It's not strange at all......I do this all the time.....I have Sharpies everywhere. :D

My pleasure! That sharpie trick is great.

$35.00!!! Yes thats a great deal! Congrats! Enjoy it!

here are the pics I said I would post. this knife needed some TLC when I got it.
I did a quick clean up. The bolsters and blade don't look anywhere near as scratched as the pictures show....in fact....it looks great. I can't figure out how to take good pics of shiny things. :)

it will be used...that i have no doubt....but...i have a feeling that when my father sets eyes on this he'll grab it. someone said they used a Lansky to sharpen these. what angle are you using?

I used either the 17 or 20 slot. Neither was right on but I reprofiled it to one of those. I want to say it was the 17? The angle on those blades is pretty steep. I would try the marker routine and see which is closest. It will also depend on how it was sharpened in the past! Good luck.

Mine seemed to be closer to 25 degrees so I went with it. I'm not happy with the sharpness. I'm going to redo it at 17.
thanks!

Good luck. Mine was previously used also, so that may have had something to do with it... Buckaholic- what do you sharpen yours at? Or should I say have you needed to sharpen it yet?
