First Buck - Ion Fusion 110

This is the first ionfusion I have seen. Are the blades a gold tint or are my eyes getting bad?

The blades had many different colors. Most were gold or champagne colored ;) Here's a few different examples:

Champagne:

Light gold top, Purple Bottom.

Grey, champagne (again), and Gold:

Those are sweet. Do you have photos of opposite side. i seen where someone said only shapen one side. I dont have any but my curiousity has been sparked.

Here's some close ups of a Grey MiniBuck 425 With Buckcote. I got a better close up of the edge with the smaller blade. I used flash on one of the pics to show the bevel of the sharpened edge also! I hope you like them ;)

Click on the thumbnails then make em full screen and you can see the edge, and the big warning sticker on the backside ;)

Thats interesting. Do you know what the thinking was behind it?

Razor sharp! Long lasting cutting edge! Neat looking blades? Super high
Rockwell hardness!! (off the charts)
Maybe Joe could add to this list? I'm not an expert. :D

I have a 400 series Buckcote that I carried for a while. It was awesomely sharp out of the box and most of the blade stayed sharp for an impressive amount of time but I found that I got chipping along the blade edge, not big chips that you might be inclined to call abuse, just little ones that I could feel with the edge of my thumb nail. I put the knife away. I suspect that that is why we don’t see Buck offering Buckcotes now, that and the obvious problems when teaching owners to sharpen their Buckcote knives. I think the purple blade is cool.

IonMan Jim is on the money.
This knife is a GREAT user.
Asking about BuckCotes is like asking me to show ya pics of my grandkids.

Jim...I haven't sharpened the 110 BuffCote yet. It has been replaced in my EDC rotation by the 882SBTG and 1986 Kalinga.

While there have been reports of the BuckCotes rolling on the edge, I have not experienced that yet. I used it quite a bit on normal cutting tasks. No baton tests or anything that I felt would be a beater chore.

The one concern I do have, aside from the edge rolling, is the tip breaking. BUT, these would be events that may occur with, what I would consider, a chore better suited for other tools. Such as prying or cutting something hard using a BG-42.

And, Larry's "Sharpie" tip works quite well. Use it on all my knives.

Good luck. Mine was previously used also, so that may have had something to do with it... Buckaholic- what do you sharpen yours at? Or should I say have you needed to sharpen it yet?

I would probably go with 20. I use 25 for my others, but with the BuckCote, 20 then see how it works. Could go up to 25 if I wasn't happy.
But I hate to have to go down in angle once I start steep.

Perhaps no one really wanted a purple blade? :p

For the record that is the only purple one I have ever seen.;) It was a "custom shop" option that never made it. The idea was scrapped before the move to Post Falls and I believe the Alpha hunter custom shop replaced it in Post Falls. Joe can correct me But I believe this was the story.

I think they were probably a tad more expensive to mfr. and alot of people don't like change. Traditional sharpening techniques prevailed? I like the one side sharpening! Its gravy with the Lansky!

I think you nailed it (although I'm still not keen on the purple bladed one ;) )
