First Bushcrafter?

I'd keep an eye on the custom knifemakers "for sale" area here. After buying a couple I'll never go back to production again. Pride of ownership and knowing that you have something unique is the reason. Also supporting a small business and paying members on this forum means a lot to me. Also, you may find a pattern that you like that is not available in production knives. And, if you look for awhile and you find a knivemaker that you really like his style you can always get in touch and have him(or her) make pretty much anything you want.

Thank you!!! What are your thoughts about the Mora Black?

Mora Bushcraft Black is superb and feels great in the hand (Swedish ergos are hard to beat). Plenty tough for any excursion.

Plus a few others I own:
Esee 3 (feels great to me, I wear a lg/xl glove)
Spyderco BushcraftUK G10 (little pricey, but beautiful, comfortable, tool steel=easy to sharpen+tough as nails...Spyderco quality control, what's not to like).

We are fortunate that modern knives, materials, and manufacturers have a wealth of data and information available to make fantastic products that last. Many production knives or custom knife purchases from $40-$200 are going to bring you a lifetime of use.

Go to the store, put a few knives in your hand, see what feels best. Not so much brand, but round handle? Handle with a bulge? Straight handle? Big finger choil?

I bring any one of the latter on my 1-3 day excursions. They ride alongside my Fiskars X7 axe (WONDERFUL wal-mart purchase!!!)...get a nice hatchet or axe for heavy work and realize that even if that axe gets lost, many of the knives in this thread will get you home.

I was wandering the forum looking for an answer to the same question the op had. Fortunately, my son has quite a few knives so I was able to handle several and form an idea of what worked for me. I loved all of his Fiddleback Forge knives, but were more than the free cash I had available. In the end, I ended up buying a Condor Kephart. I spent some time sanding the scales to my liking, stripping the coating from the bade and giving it a mild patina. For less than thirty bucks I have a solid performer that I enjoy using, while waiting for the M6 I ordered from Aaron at Gray WolfKnives. Best of luck in your search. It's often just as much fun as opening that package when the new knife comes!

I have a hunch the search and the fun interaction with BF folks of this tread will indeed be more fun than opening the boxeS :-)!
With that said after some time and though I pulled the trigger yesterday on 2 knives:
BHK Woodsman pro
Survive Knives GSO 4.1

Both eBay purchases and should be in hand by weeks end!
Will post pics ASAP
