First Busse and some first Impressions

I'll look into lost mountain. Anyone knows sheatmakers that ship international?

Nice first Busse

As for the sheath, there were a couple reasons why Busse stopped coming with sheaths.
One was a cost management issue, making the knives a little cheaper for customers. The second reason was that everybody is different. So what one customer likes another will not, so that is why when you get a sheath for your Busse, it is one that suits YOU best.

As for inspector 11, the issues been taken care of. Between my dad and I, we have 5 or 6 knives from 11, some edges were okay, others needed work, orthers fine. But Busse will take care of it for you if you send it to them.

I get a little tired of reading this. Why should anyone have to send a brand new knife back for sharpening. IT SHOULD BE SHARP OUT OF THE BOX. I live in Sydney and sending them back for repairs would be a PIA.

I sharpen my users myself and whilst some of my Busse knives have come with poor edges it has never stopped me from buying. It is however, a source of irritation that knife sharpness from the factory is hit and miss.

Same problem with my first Busse knife, SAR 3 w/ an 11 inspection. This was taken care of by Garth and I was very impressed with the results. The BWM was my second purchase, and its a great overall big knife, my favorite in that catagory. I have all respect with the sharpness of these knives. I treat them like a gun when I carry and use them.

FerFAL, theres a lot of of that will ship overseas without a problem, I've shipped so many overseas I cant count them anymore. :)

Probably already addressed, but one issue with the concept of being sold without a sheath is that a lot, and I mean a lot of Busse buyers buy a handful or double handful of each model they like, and only one gets used. They don't have a need for a sheath for each knife. A couple sheaths for each model covers the users they have. You can't really lug around 30 Battle Mistresses at the same time, but many Busse collectors have more than that just of battle mistresses.

So when you buy one to take out and use, you are going to buy a sheath (or make one) to carry it in. That is not true for the guy who has 20 of the same knife. Even a basic sheath will run 30-50 dollars. NO biggie if you are just buying on or two for use. Big deal if you are buying 20.

I am a user. All my Infi gets used. But I am actually glad they don't come with a sheath, because I would be paying for something I would be replacing with exactly what I want.

When you see some Hogs collections, and they have hundreds of pieces all in padded sheaths, it makes much more sense.

It has gotten better, because normally you can order a sheath just how you want, from any number of great makers (both leather, kydex, and nylon with inserts) without having to send your sheath in.

As for the edge sharpness issue..............You are preaching to the choir with that one!!!!!!!!

But you will be happy to note that the issue has been addressed, and is much better now!

I always feel horrible when I hear that some one grabbed a Busse and the factory edge has problems. I convex all my edges, so it is a moot point for me, but not everyone gets a new knife and expects to reprofile it immediately (or even knows how).

Why do Prius gas pedal stick? Why did Pintos explode every now and then?

Sometimes companies have issues where a couple bad product leak through. It happens. We are all people, and all people make errors.

As for Busse, they addressed their issue, and they are trying to make right on some past problems caused by someone who didn't realize how lucky they were to work where they did.

Hey Man - You scored a great knife. I hope you enjoy it as much as you enjoy life

No disrespect intended but your analogy is somewhat misconstrued. There is a huge difference in A Ford Pinto vs any Busse knife

Ford Pintos Killed unsuspecting people

I just picked up my first Busse too, well two actually. The SAR6LE and SAR6. Wow! Great knives. They certainly won't be my last.

BTW both are razor sharp.:)

I also got a RMDx and it won't cut paper.

I guess the Rats have something to learn from the Hogs.

I know it is misconstrued, but those were the first quality control issues that came to mind. I was just trying to say that a few bad apples are bound to fall from any tree.

I thought this issue was addressed? I am very sorry to hear of your trouble.

There should be a little sticker on the knife that reads "sharpened by" Its a small way to make the craftsman accountable for his or her work.

There is , it was sharpened by Alan and inspected by 73 it even had a piece of paper which was sliced up but when i tried even with fresh printer paper more of a rip and tear then anything else. Rather a pain really . But now i guess i need to get stones or some sharpening system. I have really high grit stones and coticules for my razors but knives have always eluded me and i was a chef for over fifteen years :o
