There it is.. I am buying a Busse to fit in that size category (Angry 8" knifchetbar).. Tomorrow i make a decision.. What do you with more INFI than I think? Theres some beautiful HeavyHearts, some more nmfsh, and maybe a HOFSH.. If some ass doesnt slurp it up.. But then there are some good deals on appealing specimins of the SFNO... I like the shape of both, tho the FSH looks nicer to my eye because of the straight spine I think, but the double choil on the SFNO could be more universally comfy..

Help me out guys..

Well, I have to say that for the money you will never do better than the NMSFNO. It will do any and all things a FSH will do. But for less dough.

The blades you're talking about are great, but more expensive due to being less readily available. If cost is an issue, go with NMSFNO. If not, get both, try em, and sell what you don't like.

Just my 2¢

Its hard for me to sell things, timmy.. I'm a hoarder. So no worries there!.. We come to the crux of my problem in the price range.. Several fall in there right in the middle.. I dont really have the dough for a FBM, and i have many many knives in the size range of getting '2 for the money' would get me. Plus I dont need another pistol, so here I am.. Whatever I get will be used, tho maybe not cutting up cars or master locks.. I will save that for 'they still make those' Busses..

Perhaps a simpler question... Coated or satin? That green nmsfno of Rob's is howling at me loud since he posted it...

Edit: idk wtf bob is. I took him outta here.

Well I guess the question is -- what's your price range -- we'll be better able to help once we know that

The Mistress is the Queen - the standard!

That being said the Hearts are nice - but so are the Outlaws.....

Good luck with your choice and know that it's only for now as you will get the others eventually - it's true :)

.

I'm really trying to keep it under 650.. And thats over what I was going to allow.. But you know..

Didnt know if it was cool to throw numbers out with no gold member.

The good news is that at that price range you could land a NMFSH, NMSFNO, ASH, SFNO, SHe, ASHBM, and more. The HHFSH, HOGFSH, CGFBM, and even most FSH's will be tough to find and then land.

The FAT ASH-1, NMSFNO, and some thinner FSH's all weigh around 21 oz --- which is excellent for a jack of all trades/all purpose knife. I'd say it would be a coin flip between a NMSFNO and a FSH. The HHFSH is the ultimate in my opinion --- but it's pretty damn hard to find and even harder to get it in that price range.

Check out the YouTube videos currently available that show the NMSFNO being used --- it'll easily outcrop a BK9 and if sharpened properly I think it'll be better than an RTAK2

Mr brown has a HHFSH that is absolutely awesome.. 7 bills.. Stump has one for 675.. There is a HOFSH fresh from the spa for 650... And, and, and..... Also, there are a few FSH floating out there for 550, no sheath or 600 with a sheath.. I keep looking toward the SHBM, but I cant make myself love it even though its right there dollar wise.. I use a machete all the time, so my toys need to not look like work items at first.
And then theres those 2 fbms that BB has listed forever.. The shiny one calls to me, but I would have to wait till next month to buy either of them.
Then ol Rob puts thaf pile out he has.. FBM with awesome black over blue, killer deal on a mutant of a SFNO..
Next month I will be paid up for this job and I swear Im not buying any more axes or rifles on this paycheck... So INFI it is... I will have a Mistress then, for sure.. I feel I just need to jump on one of these deals there now, now.. I hear a missed oppertunuty truck bearing down and I hate getting hit by them bastages.

I say get the one that calls to you the most. I like large blades, but that is me. You need to get what you like best. All of them are great

As the NMSFNO and the FSH have nearly identical blade shapes, it comes down to the handles. My own preference is the Fusion handle (better chopping), so FSH for me. The FSH is also available in a greater variety of thicknesses and grinds. IMO, the 0.27" thick, sabre grind versions are the sweet spot.

Lol yes indeed I agree -- the variety that Guy is referring to is the infamous HHFSH (Heavy Hearts Fusion Steel Heart). It's a dream. you really can't go wrong with either the NMSFNO or any of the FSH's

Thanks resinguy.. It's clear you hate my wallet as much as I do... Thanks for the grind info as well, that helps, too.
I will think much..

In all seriousness.. If I spend another day stressing about inaction I will have canker sores starting.. I did that the week i was deciding between my Hogan rifle and the sig rifles I was looking at.. Lol.. I overthink everything.
What Resinguy said has run thru my mind more than a little, and so has the fact that either can do what the other can... On one hand, I think the feel of the FSH family would be worth the extra money, and on the other the Outlaws will save me money toward the next one.
This is why I havent bought a Busse yet.. How do you know where to start???

You should check with the custom shop to see if they have any NMSFNO blanks. They did just a little while ago. That way you get one in the configuration you want and at factory price. I think that starts at around $400. You might have to wait a couple of days for them to get back to you though. Be patient. It's worth it to get the exact knife you want.

I'm not of fan of the Hearts. Not sure why but I have tried more than a few and sold them all. I feel like they are a big blade that isn't really all that big. Too big to be nimble, too small to be big. I know the ASHBM is a lot bigger than you were looking for but I can't recommend it enough. Battle Mistresses aren't always available so getting one when they are around is almost mandatory for Busse fans. Why buy a FSH for $600+ when you can have a ASHBM for $500?

Just order a coated/micarta ASHBM from the shop direct and call it a day, best bang for your buck right now for what is probably the best Mistress' ever made IMO. Of course the only way you could beat the value would be getting an even better price on one via the secondary market here on the exchange… ;)
