Dwayne, you should follow up with some of your RMD sheaths, just to give the newbie a taste of what's out there!:D

I am 6'5" and wear only an XL glove, but I sold my RMD because it just didn't fit my hand. If you are stuck on an RMD see if you can get 2 sets of liners put in, if not look for a Scrapyard Regulator bowie, I love mine. Regulators are not uncommon on the exchange.
Good luck with your choice.

Hey Dave Brown, that was awesome of you to post those in-hand pics. I don't know if you had taken them previously, but I expect not and that you did so for this gentleman's reference. Kudos to you for the extra effort.

To the OP, good advice, all of the above. It is amazing that the RMD is so well regarded by such a large range of individuals. I would second the motion for adding liners, personally, as my unlined cg version is somewhat slim in my M/L-sized hands.

This is just my opinion, so take it for what it is worth----everyone needs at least one RMD, it is just that good a knife. If for some reason it doesn't suit you, you can move it in a minute on the secondary market. (I don't think you will):)

Here is an R6 without the top guard. This maybe would be a good option for you. A little bit bigger, a little thicker, and might be a good fit for you. You can't go wrong with either one.

And a not so great picture with a RMD and a R6.

I would if I could, but I dont want to get in trouble again. :(

Wow gentleman! I dont think I have seen a better forum.David your pictures are EXACTLY what i wanted to see,and you got me hands down:D,I'm size 12 pinkie....Thanks alot for doing that!I think it will help other people too because I couldnt find anything like that searching....I think the Ratmandu will be fine for me now.But now the issue is I kind of started liking the R6 with the guard removed,I don't have any high quality fix blade and I am going to use this thing forever(usually dont use my good knives lol I have beaters for that, silly i know)...The thing that made me want a Busse was the insane blade thickness and indestructible heft and appearance, since I am only going to have one busse/kin for awhile and Im thinkin mountains, camping, desert shooting more than household use (spdyerco endura always in pocket) and grab and go zombie end game survival :D R6 is lookin good....I really dont want the coated blade though,i think its going to look like crap(im not able to grind it all off later myself) after i use it for years and I have heard you CANNOT get the R6 in satin.....I have still not fully decided..although I prop would have and ordered by now but man 5 days between emails? a couple back and forth questions and takes a week or more to order...I guess I dont know the busse/rat process yet lol thanks...elof, drumrboy great camparison pics thanks...I will be sheath shopping soon i hope .

i think i need to check the exchange too, maybe by pass this long order process,is the a "swamprat exchange" area,i only saw fix blades in general

...I really dont want the coated blade though,i think its going to look like crap(im not able to grind it all off later myself) after i use it for years and I have heard you CANNOT get the R6 in satin.....

You could perhaps use a paint stripper to remove the coating when that time comes, instead of grinding.. just a thought.

Precisely! And the benefit of that is that you can leave the handle part coated for more corrosion resistance.

hmmm yes this is all something to think about...I know the R6 is a newer offering...how long does it usually take until they start offering more options for it in the custom shop, like satin finish? and thanks for the exchange link, just to get some ideas,im going to order direct Ive decided since its my first one.

Man that Brown's got some monster hands. you know whatthat indicates, right...?

Really big gloves.:D

Yeee Haww!!! Just placed my order! Trissy got back to me and said they ARE NOW OFFERING the r6 in satin!
I decided to go with the R6 top guard removed, satin finish, and blue and black handle! I said if they offered handle spacers to add those....
I am sure by summer I will order an off the shelf ratmandu,as i am now convinced the handle is fine....I am really excited and thank everyone for helping me on this! I will return with pictures when it arrives!! thanks again

Congrats, it sounds like you are getting exactly what you want. The combination of Blue and Black on satin with no top guard is going to be one sweet set up
You may want to think about asking them to thin the edge a bit depending what you are going to use it for. A thinner edge can make a real difference in performance.

Sounds like an awesome blade!

Thanks for reminding me FTR-14, I did request more edge when i ordered.....
I am glad I posted here first, I got something totally different then what I would have bought....and instead got exactly what I wanted.Really makes the knife special and alot of fun to buy.I am also thrilled its a user and can't wait to put it through some trials!!
Tonight I will order a sheath...Deciding kydex or leather..I love the look and performance of kydex but on a big knife to be carried on my belt in the great outdoors I like the idea of not buying techloks and figuring out the whole process (never used kydex sheath) of getting it to sit/hang how i want and everything.....any input on this?

Congrats on the order. I am sure some of the Kydex benders will be along to help you out.

With satin blade SR-101 might be prone to rusting, and leather can retain moisture for quite a while.

If you're not sure about tek-loks, you can get the Esee drop loop/backing and ask the kydex bender to set the sheath for it.

Yeah Im about to start pricing and will go with kydex......on the same note what kind of oil do you guys use to protect the blade from rust?
