First Case Recommendation

Well guys, I've finally decided on my first Case: Wharncliffe Mini Trapper.

I like the simplicity of two blades and both the clip and wharncliffe shapes. I'm ok with SS blades since I don't plan on putting the knife to hard use anyway. The color and smooth bone really spoke to me, too. I got the Mini version and am looking forward to its arrival.

BTW, why isn't there a Case subforum here? I know a lot of members here collect Case knives.

Nice choice. I've been wanting to pick up one of those wharncliffe trappers but keep forgetting about them. The mini trapper should be able to handle most tasks while being easy to pocket.

Yeah. I considered the full size trapper but at 4 oz. I wouldn't carry it that much. The mini trapper is something that I'd be happy to EDC.

What's your favorite Case knife?

Favorite Case...

It'd probably come down to either a yellow handle sodbuster jr. or the barehead slimline trapper, both in CV. Don't know why, but I kind of lean towards single-bladed folders. That isn't to say that I don't appreciate multi-bladed folders either. Occasionally, I'll carry around a stockman.

My favorite Case knife is the Barlow pattern. It is such an old school, classic design.

It's said the George Washington carried a Barlow pattern pocket knife.

My favorite Case Barlow is the Stag Handled Raindrop Damascus version they recently released. WOW!!

I don't have one but I think it looks really nice and might pick one up: A slimline trapper in G10

Does anyone know if they make this model with the CV steel? I think all of the ones I have seen are stainless.

They don't make it in CV, but I sure as heck wish that they did!!

It's a great carry anyway - Case grinds the blade razor sharp on that model and doesn't polish it, leaving an "as is" finish.
The knife is also very light in weight.

That's a beautiful knife; congratulations.

Please let us know which Case you buy next. ;)

It's a shame that they don't have many barlows in CV :(

My first was the case medium stockman with g10 scales that I got yesterday. Probably the best knife purchase I have ever made. I highly recommend that one as the scales won't be prone to damage and the stainless blades require less maintenince.

CV medium stockman first. I like the chestnut bone version a lot myself.
Then a CV Peanut
Then a CV Trapper

In Texas here it should be a requirement that every man have a Case CV yellow handled Trapper it just should be, I think of that as the Texas knife because I would see so many guys with their yellow handle Trappers in their belt sheaths of all sorts. But then again that is in here in Texas and I also have a Red bone CV Muskrat which is a slick style. But the yellow handle CV Trapper is a great knife for anyone in any state.

If you're in Texas how about a Texas jack or Texas toothpick? :D

One of the sweet swaybacks or a stockman...my opinion

A CV peanut, stockman or trapper in "yella" would be great classic choices and you can not go wrong with one or more of those.

I will toss in my opinion. The CV swayback in chestnut bone (Top knife in ed's picture) is the nicest knife I have seen out of Case's regular production in decades. I guess they really turned things up a few notches as far as the tooling and procedures that go into making the pattern. It is a very well made knife all around.

Well, it looks like I ended up ordering a Tiny Trapper - lol.

No worries. I still prefer the Wharncliffe Trapper to the Peanut design and if I want something bigger I'll get it in the future.

Do any of you guys have Trapperlocks? I'd love to get one in the future and am curious as to the strength of the lockup.

Very nice pictures, btw. I find the Swaybacks to have beautiful handles and nice blades but the shape of the handle puzzles me. Is it designed just for pull cuts?

My favorite traditional pattern is a whittler. I'd recommend that, or if you need to get the CV, which I agree is better, then go with a stockman. Its almost the same as a whittler, and I don't think they make the whittler in CV, not currently anyway.

I know this is a bit off-topic but have any of you owned an AG Russell knife? I'm looking at his 3.0 inch titanium lockback and am liking what I see. Any opinions?

Oh, and I'll be sure to post pics when my Case arrives. ;)
