Over the last few days I picked up a Sodbuster Jr. with black composite handles, and a chestnut bone Swayback Jack. TruSharp and CV, respectively.

The Sodbuster is a nice snappy knife, but it feels a bit unfinished -- the edges of the spine of the blade aren't rounded off, and the exposed corner of the tang when it's closed is sharp. Doesn't work well in my pocket, so I think it's going to end up living in the glove box of my car...

The SBJ, on the other hand... I can't put this thing down. Me likey.

Hi,

Nice start to your Case collection! I'd just stone those sharp edges a bit to ease the sharp edges. I think you'll find it an agreeable companion after that. And I don't blame you for being wowed by the Swayback. The chestnut scales are very pretty and the whole pattern just seems to flow.

I would do the same to your Soddie as Dalee suggested. A slip joints no good IMO if it can't go in yer pocket...
My guess is that the price point that they sell at, there isn't a lot of time spent on them. Although that doesn't excuse sharp edges.

The Chestnut SW seems to always get great reviews, and the coloring looks great... Enjoy

When I put my swayback jack into rotation, it stays there longer than I planned.

Strange that the Sodbuster has those sharp points, most CASE knives have fairly rounded feel,Schatts and Queens often have very sharp tangs that can tear pockets.Crisp line up with the backspring though.

Might just be my most favorite production knife. I sat back and waited until the cv version came out and have not looked back. Everything about the knife still is impressive to me and the fit, finish and blade action is up there with anything production wise that I have been exposed to over the last couple of decades.

I have exactly the same complaint on my soddie, though I do like it a lot otherwise and it gets a lot of pocket time.

The Swayback gets a lot of comments similar to yours. Very popular. I think I need to add it to my small collection, too.

I have SS and CV Sodbuster Jr's. The CV has rounded corners on the spine. It's very pocket friendly.

The Queen Country Cousin has a sharp spine like the SS Sodbuster. In fact, I think the spine on the Queen was sharper than the factory blade edge. :o

Case's stainless sodbusters tend to be a little rough right out of the box. It's nothing that a little love with some sandpaper and metal polish won't fix. In less than 30 minutes, you can finish that puppy up as slick as a river stone, and she'll ride in your pocket like a dream. Congrats on your first Cases! Careful though- they can be addictive!
