First chop with the ASHBMLE Updated page 4, MOAB and NMFSHLE comparison (video)

So by my count the ashbm was at 52 hits compared to the nmfshle at 77 hits...anyone correct me if I'm wrong please

Yeah 10 seconds sounds about right, as for comfort i can't say that one is better than the other even though they are very different, one benefit with the Fusion handle is that you can let your hand slip further back on the handle than on the SH and still maintain a secure grip.

I can try to do it again tomorrow and see if the difference is constant :D

The ashbm seems to bite a lot deeper but also binds more....judging by number of chops by each vs time by each.

I haven't weighed any of them but i think they are pretty close.

Thanks--yeah, I wondered if that might be the case.

Anybody out there have both knives and a scale? I know the ASHBM 1of300 with choil comes in a little under 26 oz w/micarta or a little over 27 oz with G10, but I don't have a NMFSH to compare.

On my fish scale the ASHBMLE (1 of 300) weighs in at 25,5oz and the NMFSHLE at 27,5 oz

I'll see if i can find a more accurate scale tomorrow if no one steps up.

Wow--thanks Lennox. So the ASHBM blade is longer and the knife is lighter, and I believe the same thickness at the spine? Cool.

I think Brtn11 said his micarta-handled, ASHBMLE weighed 25.75 oz, so sounds like your scale is right close. The thing I like about you weighing both knives is that if the scale had any discrepancy, it wouldn't affect the comparison significantly since both knives were weighed on the same scale.

And both of your knives have canvas micarta slabs, right?

Thanks again man!
Will

My ashbm cg with choil and black paper micarta weighs 27 almost right on the dot....and that's with a pretty accurate digi scale.

So if we do a CG to CG comparison, the ASHBM and NMFSH weigh in about the same.

The NMFSHLE is black paper but i think canvas and paper are pretty close in weight.

Yeah I'd say that's pretty much right..their could be a few more variables..but I'd say within an ounce of each other at most.

Is the NMFSH CG the same weight as the NMFSH LE? Sometimes coated blades are a little different thickness and weight than satin, even if quoted nominally the same thickness by the shop.

Thanks again, Lennox and nerv102.

I messaged rob to see if he could let us know what the weight on his cg without choil is...not sure what handle material is on it though...looks to be black canvas micarta.

So for robs...he said its about 26.5..which makes me think my weight might be out a bit cuz mines pretty much 27 on the dot..but mine has a choil.

Thanks nerv102. And his has black canvas micarta, so less than an ounce difference between Brtn11's canvas-on-satin 1of300 @ 25.75 oz and Rob's CG canvas-on-coated without choil at "about 750 grams" or as you say about 26.5 oz. Sounds like these are all pretty close.

I counted 49 chops for the ASHBM & 65 chops for the NMFSH. Hard chops that is, not just the little taps to line er up.
