Forged 5670, FeCl matte finish, brass bolsters and caps, cocobolo scales, surrounded by phenolic resin MOP. Blade length 4-7/8" Overall length 9-3/4

First knife out of the new shop!

Comments and critique welcomed.

Thanks for looking!

Dave
Edit: Sorry for the bad photography. Although it doesn't look like it, the pins are smooth and round, and there are no gouges in the knife. I really need to get a better set up for taking pics.

Very nice! I like how the wood, MOP, and brass seem to compliment each other, both in color and pattern :)

Very Sleek , Very Cool!!!
I have often wondered about real MOP and if it would work?
Nice Design!!!
Real MOP will work, but it's very toxic to grind (dust) and typically it is very thin. It's best used as an inlay or a scale on a folder or other smaller knife.
I grind and sand real MOP under water.
I prefer using reproduction materials at this stage in my abilities.

Thanks for all the great feedback guys!!

I have more in process.

Looks realy good!
Can you tell me what a FeCl matte finish is?

Sure.
I Sanded it down to 400 on the 2X72 belt grinder, then to 600 by hand, then etched the blade in Ferric Chloride (FeCl) It gives it a matte finish rather than polishing to mirror. Once I etch, I neutralize the FeCl with ammonia, then lighly buff the oxides off until it gets the finish I want.

Basically, I'm leaving the grain open, staining it, stopping the etch process with Ammonia, then closing the steel grain by buffing.
