First compression lock knife

I have a "need" to get a Spyderco knife with a compression lock. Current Spydies I own are a Delica, Endura, and a cool little serrated hawkbill Ladybug, all back locks.

The obvious choice is a PM2 but I'm really eyeing the Yojimbo 2. No doubt I'll eventually have both but I'm having a hard time deciding which to get now. I have outdoorsy fixed blades plus the Delica/Endura and nothing in a Wharncliffe which suggests Yojimbo but the main purpose of this particular knife is to try out (and play with) the lock and from what I gather the smoothest iteration is the PM2 which is also a more well rounded knife.

Suggestions?

Yes to the PM2.

If a smaller blade is needed, get a Lil’ Native. If larger, get a Shaman.

Get the yojimbo, you clearly want the knife. It will let you try out two features you're interested in and if you find that you really don't care for the compression lock at least you'll still have a wharnie for situations where that blade style comes in handy.

Go for PM2 ;)

Is there some sprint or exclusive variant of either you prefer? If so, better to get it while it's available and get the other later. I think the 52100/CF and M4/CF versions of the PM2 are still available.

You can't go wrong with either choice but I'll vote Yojimbo. More unique look and everyone needs to try a wharncliffe blade at some time.

Whichever knife you choose, Spyderco's compression lock is brilliant, right up there with Benchmade's ingenious Axis lock and Cold Steel's bank vault Tri-Ad. The PM2 is an incredible integrated design IMHO.

The PM2 may be the best knife that Spyderco makes. And I carried an Endura and Military several years before the PM2 was introduced.

I say go with the Yojimbo2. It's a wonderful knife with great ergos and awesome blade.

And I definitely do not think the PM2 is the best knife Spyderco makes.

Yo2 hands down IMHO.

I have a PM2 as well and it's probably one of the most underwhelming Spydercos I've owned. While that may be a bit unfair, it's honestly how I feel. Now it is a solid knife in all aspects but it just doesn't do it for me like it does for so many others.

From all the answers you know what you have to do.
I will add two things (meaning three).
The very last knife I bought (two days ago) was a Para2 (camo DLC) and it has the best action of my few Paras; so they sure are making them great right now. Link=>>>> My Latest Para2
Test out any other compression locks before you buy (preferably in a store) . . . some of my other compression locks have less than stellar pivot action (they don't swing free through the full arc) but they function just fine as a lock . . . no stick or play.

Glad you like your Ladybug. I just bought the ZDP-189 and I like using it very much. Haha, open it is shorter than the Para's handle. Ladybug . . . not just for the ladies.

And finally, I see this is your second post, welcome fellow knife dude (you sound very well read / researched on the knives you referred to) . . . it is possible to edit the title of threads by clicking on "Thread Tools" on the upper right portion of your thread and in the pull down click on "Edit Title".

I had to digest all that a bit. I agreed with both of you.
All around : how it rides in the pocket (getting past it to get things out of pocket) yet enough handle to be a hard use knife, great pocket clip function, friendliness / fun of lock, blade shape / length, freekin' awesome choice in steel alloys, pivot strength and pivot performance . . . yeah . . . Para 2 could be the best knife Spyderco makes (I have four).

How ever once one gets that sucker out and are cutting stuff. I like the Endura handle better and anything closer to the Buck 110 handle would be my first pick. Put a pocket clip on the best handle shape and put it on a pocket and it sucks. (not the endure the 110).

We need some photos of better Spydercos than the Para2; I need to see why.
I might even "need" a knife I didn't know I needed :) ;)

That's sort of my thinking about the PM2. I played with one for a while at Cabellas and it was pretty slick but as a cutting tool it seems too similar to my Endura to justify getting right now. Of course by that reasoning I shouldn't buy anything. I'm still early in the obsession which started several months ago when I finally busted a ten year old Gerber, my up until then EDC. I couldn't decide between a Delica and a Mini Grip, ended up getting both and the flood gates opened. Oh well, it's cheaper than guns.
