First CRK how does the Sebenza Slice?

I have owned a small Seb and 2 Caly Jnrs, (the original in VG-10 and the newer in ZDP-189), for some time. I use the Caly (ZDP) and the Seb regularly. They are both incredible slicers when sharpened well. I used the Edgepro to profile them at 30 then used the Sharpmaker to put a micro bevel at 40 on the Seb. The Caly I left at 30. After a bit of stropping on leather they are both scalpel sharp. In practice, I would be hard pressed to find any significant difference in overall slicing, cutting and peeling. The Sebenza is slightly heavier and I prefer the feel of it in my hand.

Maybe the reason my UK Pen Knife/Caly3 slices much better is partly because I put about a 15degree inclusive angle on both. I was told by Soneone at Spyderco W&R to do that. I think it also has something to do with them being thinner behind the edge than the Sebenza too though.

That being said the Sebenza is without a doubt the better knife and better mix of toughness and performance. The Sebenza is much tougher while still being a good slicer. Get the Sebenza you will love it and it will do everything you mentioned well.

I'm sure that both of them could handle 15 a side without too many problems but I sometimes tend to cut things that most knives are not normally meant to cut, like electric fence tape which has wire woven through it. This is why I generally put a higher angle on some of them, such as the 40 micro bevel on the Seb and a full 40 on the SnG.

Maybe that's overkill but it's gets me through a full day without the need to resharpen.

Wow...I really appreciate all the helpful replies guys! It'll be nice to know what you guys are all talking about! But until I get mine(this week) I will have to slice vicariously through all of you!

Thanks again,
Floyd
