Great vid. Good knife usage content. He got right to work.... :D

Won't be his only. :)

Mine was a James Bros. 'Cheyenne' auto. I still have it. My brother-in-law was one of the two 'James'' that started that company.

Then came the next, and the next.....

Thanks Mike!

Coop, I never heard that story before.. (Dibs on that "cheyenne" if you ever need to further fund your quest for horsepower..)

Mike, neat idea for thread that we can all contribute to.. Everyone remembers their "first"... Mine was this D'Holder "My Knife".. I still collect his work.. Best, Rich

Outstanding..
Great Post my friend..
My first custom was a Mike Sanders Skinner with water buffalo scales and filework..
I purchased it from Mr Sanders at a gun show in Memphis circa 1991-92
I think I paid about $200.00 for the Sanders and it was alot of money for me at the time, in fact that was my absolute self imposed limit..
Just a couple years later I was fortunate enough to purchase an Edmund Davidson Integral for $1,650, then a Lightfoot tactical folder from Les Robertson and it was all over
As I became more educated it was easy to understand the pricing of custom knives and justify the purchases.
That becomes increasingly important when your buying knives that cost as much as a small car..
Now I try to buy a custom knife at every show I attend..
Respect

this knife by Peter Marzitelli was my first custom knife. Brass, elk, ATS34- very nicely made.
I got it about 6 years ago from this guy who has a little store in town where he sells all this weird stuff he's collected over the years, who happens to be a bit of a knife knut who doesn't know much about custom knives. I got it for about $150.
Since then, my collection's grown to a little over 30 knives. I learn more with every new knife and I'm constantly amazed by how much each of my knives has taught me and continues to teach every time I pick one up.

Mine was this Elmer Keith skinner

I can still remember ordering this knife and how surprised I was when Dennis sent it to me with a bill enclosed I believe it was 30 years ago

I bought mine in 1988 at the Southeast Wildlife Exhibition in Charleston. The knife was made my Sam Cox and I still have it. I think George Herron was there too, but what did I know at the time!!

I first met Mike Snody at a Chesapeake Show sometime in the early '90s, I can remember how impressed I was with his knives and what a nice guy he is. Look at him now!!

My first customs were from Greg Lightfoot: a Predator and a Predator backup ( one fixed, one folder). I still have them although the folder is semi-retired. I chose those over an Elishewitz Spectre that I was lusting after. I've waiting years to find that first Spectre model I passed up and found one a few months ago here on BFF. So I got my first custom a couple of decades late :)

Great Thread!

My Dad had this knife made for me by Virgil Campbell of I.R.B.I. Knives in Alaska. This is the first time my father had done anything like this for me and I'm quite fond of it. It was the inspiration for me to learn how to make knives myself.
