I ordered my first custom today. I was so happy with the blade style of the Salyan Special that I picked up from the last minute gift ideas thread that I decided to pull the trigger and order a custom in this style with just a few personal changes it fit my intended use of it. Yangdu was very helpful with the whole process and made ordering a very easy and pleasant experience. She is a wonderful woman to do business with. I am very much looking forward to seeing how it turns out when I get it in the next month or two.

Many Thanks,

John Malick aka Mr. Bowie

No doubt, you will be impressed. I have had a couple customs done, and they far exceeded any expectations.

Mr. B

Congratulations on your purchase and don't forget to post pictures when you get it.

I will certainly post a review with pics when I get it. I am sure I will be very impressed when I get it. I have 7 others from the standard line up and I have been very happy with them all but something about the Salyan once I had it in my hands and ran through some practice drills with it I just knew this was the style blade worth me doing a custom of and a perfect blade style for what I am having it made for.

Lol sorry maybe I should have clarified no I have seven other kukri's from HI.

Oh... I know the feeling... That is exactly where I am too.

Here's my HI family :-)

Thanks.

I don't know if you already have a HI Bowie... They are fantastic.
Your custom will not disappoint.

I don't have on of there bowie knives but I like the look of the one you have. As soon as I get a chance I will have to post a pic of the blades I have in my HI collection.

just ordered my first custom too, i was so excited I think i sent auntie about 30 emails all with horribly garbled information , until I realized that I was basically asking her to make about a dozen weapons, and she only agreed to one -- i composed myself, apologized and then asked for a single weapon that will hopefully be done some time next year ! its very cool to get something custom made, especially from HI, but patience is a virtue for those of us that dive into it !

Bowie, Gehazi and phil - did you sent drawings or other type of examples or just plain text with dimensions?

Do you mind sharing them here?

I started to feel poorly for myself since I don't have a custom order in, then a little flash bulb popped in my head and I remembered the Micro Mini AK Bowie is in the works. No set date yet but rumor has it it's in the works.

I don't feel poorly no more. Now I have anticipation anxiety. I think it's gonna be a very cool thing. Can't wait.
an HI knife a person can carry everyday. I'm so excited.

It's ok to be excited right? That's not unmanly or anything right? I'm ok?

You bet it is OK. I'm probably as excited as you for the MMAKB - I'm waiting to see how yours turns out before placing my own custom order for something similar.

Yeah, another HI acronym.

snow,

I sent my order instructions in just plain text, but it's for a model that HI already makes but with different size & weight plus a couple other requests. I did send a picture of myself holding some HI knives along with my order though, just as a nice thing for the kami. I won't share exactly what I ordered, you will have to wait and see. :D

Hey Bawanna, you've had that custom order brewing for a while now. That Micro-Mini AKB (AKA the Bawanna Bowie) is going to be a sweet little knife.

mine is going to be a reproduction of this http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7011/6736986263_d68524b54c_b.jpg I actually have zero idea about the dimensions so I just asked for a blade of 36 inches with a 12 inch grip-- this sword is a registered antique in india , est 200 years old.

hopefully raj kumar can make me a "as close as possible" reproduction, will be a long process as I want everything clad in silver, if possible I want it weighted on the far end as so it can be a functional executioners sword for my megamanical fantasies, as it is the sword is a Kachin dha of relatively unique make, but typical for the region to be missing the tip on the sword

lol originally I sent an email for like 5 knives -- two villager fit 30 inch dha 2 inch wide 1/4 thick , kachin style, one 48 3/8-1/2 thick at tip , 2 1/2 inches wide ( the one im trying to get made , as picture) and another like a kachin dha , khukuri hybrid 32 long, 2 wide and 3/8 thick, and the last one like a giant cleaver in the same style with a 15 inch grip and 18 inch blade with 5/8 thick spine and blade 4 inches wide

I also requested all the marks be on the spine or in the fuller and be topped by a smiling mustached sun ( as per some old khukuri ive seen)

when auntie sent me email for the specs I took the options to mean, "you can have one of each made" so my 5 knives covered every possible option from leather , wood and bone to polish and style lol -- maybe one day but for now the reproduction is the one I want the most!

but I still hope for Gehazi specials as gehazi would be a cool name for a knife /sword as it means "valley of vision" and that is a very deep valley of vision on that sword blade.

You have to be very clear with Rajkumar whether you want the 36" to be overall length or actual blade length. The standard HI katana is about 36" overall length, so if you really want 48" OAL you should make sure that is understood.

This is going to be a very interesting item when finished.
