It was a good day to be out. The mosquitos were bad, but we walked the trail down the Altamaha on the South bank today. Tree rats were active. The river was running strong.

Later we saw some big bamboo not far from the Altamaha on some private property. I must plant some of this stuff on my land this year.

Thanks for the pics.
Can't wait till we see some growth around here; 3' of snow here still ,lol.
Must be cool to have bamboo there. Greatest building material ever

Bamboo can be nice, so long as you can contain it, water or an artificial barrier (above & below ground). If you cannot it will slowly take over.

Contain bamboo? LOL! Lemme know how that works out for ya. Maybe with a backhoe and napalm. 10 yrs ago this guy talked the old man into agreeing to use it as a natural divider between the properties. I've been "containing" the hell out of it ever since. Thanks Dad!!

I want a giant bamboo jungle out back. In the coming apocalyse, I can make things with it. By the time it takes over, I'll be long gone. :D

Bamboo can be contained (mostly). The easiest way for the owner is to plant it with a natural water barrier blocking it's expansive. Besides that, we used to install hard rubber/plastic barriers that went down two feet into a trench and up a foot around the bamboo planting. I imagine cement would work the same as the plastic barrier, but would be much more work to install.

Edit: But yes I do agree, bamboo is one of the most difficult plants to dig up and/or divide. The roots are simply everywhere.

Hahahha. Bamboo is an extremely useful natural material. Go for it Horn Dog, create a jungle

Horn dog, coming from getting to know you from the forums you want the bamboo for more of your great chopping comparisons. In which case let me know when you need help planting:)

wow...that's what i call bamboo heaven! i wish i had something of that size growing here instead of the puny ones. short of cordage, it supplies everything...we even eat bamboo shoots (it's considered a vegetable in my culture).

tree rats, haha. they're not that bad. they stay outdoors, don't spread disease, and taste better than rats :D

Well, I ain't got any pretty women to post up but this is how my dad and I have been spending the first days of Spring - reseeding some fields.

This was on my game camera yesterday. Think I will plant a frag grenade there to take out this herd bbefore the garden comes up.

How bout just a claymore?

Kubota? What type of grass(es) are you seeding down?

Yep, this is the small Kubota. Kentucky 31. It seems to do about as good as anything. Will probably do some Centennial clover in some food plots though. Maybe that will keep these freakin deer on the back side of the place and out of my green beans.

Probably not, they know what they want. You have woodchuck problems too, with beans, etc? Those little fat bastards are a pain up here.

I've toyed with doing something along the line of the water hobo to deal with the critters eating the wife's plants as she won't let me go terminal on them ...

U can make yourself a big Viagra holder out of that bamboo.

Lol just teasing
