First Delica Just Arrived!

After carrying and using it a few days I have definitely changed my opinions a bit, the knife is very easy and light to carry but is really just too small. Sure, it's fine for opening letters and threads and that kind of thing, but I find it too small for things like cutting a steak etc. I will probably keep it, but I ordered a Manix 2 LW today that I hope will be more what I am looking for as far as size and won't be a pain in the butt to open quickly.

Also, not impressed with the VG10 edge retention, I cut up about a half dozen medium size cardboard boxes the other day and it went from razor sharp (factory) to unable to slice legal pad paper. I realize I am a bit spoiled by the S30V Blur and D2 Griptillians I have been carrying lately but still I was disappointed.

You could always get an endura instead, thats a wicked slicer. As far as flicking goes, its actually quite simple to do, its just about technique. And vg 10 is one of my favorite steels. For me it holds an edge great, easy to sharpen and can get razor sharp. However, thats just me when it comes to steels, Im not a huge fan of supersteels.

If it's too small for you but you like the utility of the fun, then the Endura maybe your speed. A Goddard is endura sized but with the thinness of a delica but if you have big hands maybe the endura is the way to go.

I thought about doing a return/exchange for the brown endura, but I have the Emerson Endura and the Matriarch already (same handle as the Endura) and I'm not a huge fan of how it carries, I feel like there is a lot of wasted space in the handle.

I'm going to keep the Delica, I (finally) ordered the diamond and ultra fine Sharpmaker rods and once they come I'm going to give it a good, clean 30 degree (inclusive) edge and use it for things like when I got to the gym etc. I don't regret the purchase at all so I don't want to give that impression, I just came to see through use that it was a bit small for the tasks I wanted to use it for day to day.

You may consider returning the Delica and forking out the extra $ for a paramilitary 2. If you haven't tried it you won't be disappointed.

I could, but I ordered the Manix 2 LW today, very close in size to the PM2.

A nice robust knife with great features! Probably a little more durable than the PM2, at least towards the end of the blade. I never paid much attention to the Gayle Bradley until last night, and now it's definitely the next knife on my radar! I guess the Taiwan made knives are as good or better than the Golden Co. and Seki City knives.
