My KZ II arrived in the mail today. I literally spent about 30 solid seconds laughing with joy at the size of the thing. I don't care how many pictures you look at or specs you read, they don't do it justice. I see know why you guys were saying side of pork when I said bacon
I've got a rattan futon frame in my garage that will fall victim to the KZ shortly as its too large to fit in my recycle bin. I've never used a kuhkri and I'm more excited to give it a whack (pun intended XD) now that I have it in hand.
Garth, you guys at the shop, you did a great job. The edge is beautiful, I've never seen a true convex edge and I like it a lot. Its hard to look at and comprehend, sort of like an M.C Escher drawing. Having a round edge and not having a distinguishable relief almost makes it
look dull, but trust me, its shaving sharp at least
The handles are near perfectly symmetrical down to the weave of the canvas, grippy where they need to be and smooth in all the right places. I've been considering contacting the shop to see if I could get Magnum handles put on my CGFBM so I was a little concerned that the regular handles on this guy might be a little thin for my gorilla mitts, but the steel stock is a little thicker and the ends of the handles flare out a bit width-wise.
The satin finish is the only thing that could be a little better: one side looks flawless but on the other you can definitely see some light nonuniform sanding swirls on the blade and a light spot about 3/4" long and 1/4" at the widest, right above the handle, where someone might have slipped with the sander. These MINOR imperfections in the finish don't bother me, I'm just typing up what I see, I plan on putting a mirror polish on it after I beat it up a bit.
I took a few pictures of me unwrapping the knife and a couple others with my turtle inspecting the knife, then found out the data cable (hopefully) for my camera isn't working. Do'h! If it's not the cable I can take pictures with my phone tomorrow, but I like my camera a lot better.
Thanks again to the entire Busse crew, the mastermind behind Infi, the guys running the grinders and especially to Amy and Lexi for being patient with me pestering them
