Recommendation? First EDC - bugout or griptilian?

Hi everyone.

new member here with a first post asking for some feedback on my first decent EDC knife purchase.

I’m tossing up between the Benchmade Bugout and the benchmade mini griptilian.

I’m looking for something inconspicuous and not too big(I’m a minimalist).
I think the bugout colors look less scary but is also a larger knife. The griptilian is heavier (80g compared to 50g) would this be a big deal? I want to forget this is in my pocket.

Price isn’t really a factor, i want it to last against constant light to medium usage (i have a fixed blade if i go camping or something) and occasional abuse from someone that doesn’t know what he’s doing :p

Do you guys and girls have any thoughts? Oh and I’m going to take off the clip.

thanks :)
My vote is the Griptilian. Between the 2 it is a tough choice but the Griptilian is so nicely functional it is hard to beat.

I would say the bugout. I have the ranger green one which I swapped the scales out for some of the AWT hard anodized aluminum scales and it is my favorite knife by far. It is in my pocket daily.

Based on your preferences I’d say Bugout. Have owned both and prefer the Bugout. Disappears in your pocket, short clip, ready when you need it.

Owned both, sold the Bugout. Still have two mini Grips w/ sheepsfoot blades. Also, aftermarket scales can make the Grip a bit slimmer in hand/pocket. DOAT!:thumbsup:

Unless you're looking at the 550/555 grip forget it and make your decision between the bugout and the Hogue Ritter

The mini grip feels much better in my smaller hands. The bugout feels better in my pocket. The mini doesn't bother me at all in my pocket, the bugout is just invisible. I don't notice it at all. I prefer a knife that feels better in my hand where I use it I discovered.

I borrowed a mini to try. Then I bought a bugout. I really like it. I plan to keep using it. But I also want a mini grip still. Lol I just really want a particular setup but not sure it's worth getting a custom for a black axis lock. I keep checking the for sale here. Eventually I'll find the one I'm looking for.

Anyway, I guess my point is buy both. Get the mini grip first.

My advice is to get the version with satin axis lock rather than the coated ones as the satin ones (bare) are smoother.

Mini grips get my vote on ergo with my hands and needs.

This is one of the few verses threads I can't give an answer too. It's a tie in my opinion. The mini is shorter and fatter, Bugout is slimmer and longer. Both make great edc's, carry well, good amount of blade per handle size, etc. No wrong answer.

IMO buy the one you like more.

You can't really go wrong with these choices. And welcome :D

I have both and will continue to keep/carry both (not at the same time however). Either/or should do you just fine.

Bugout, is lighter & carries better. It's also is a better cutter than the grip.
My 2 cents says get the bugout, you won't regret it.

I would vote for the bugout also. It is a lot thinner, longer cutting edge and lighter than the mini grip. Which sounds like what you're looking for. I would also suggest keeping the pocket clip on the knife. While not impossible, the axis lock becomes more difficult to operate with one hand if you remove the pocket clip.

Bugout. It's a better EDC over all IMO, especially after a scale upgrade if you like it. It's in my pocket right now.
