Am ready to get my first Emerson. Which one should i get first between the two?

Thanks for all opinions.

The mini-7 seems to be alot of peoples first EKI and its a great little knife.
The 14 is pretty much a classic so you really cant go wrong with that either.

I say just flip a coin and get both :D

I'm a big fan of all the sizes of the 7. The mini is one of my main EDC's and unlike many other folks, I find th CG tanto to be a fine utility knife. Works great for my shop chores, mostly opening and breaking down boxes. The CG holds up well to cardboard cutting, and after awile is a breeze to sharpen. That being said, the 14 is high on my wish list too. I think you'll be happy with either one.

The Snubby has the most comfortable handle I've ever ....er... handled. :) The blade length and shape is great for EDC. The 7's tanto blade shape is arguably less suited for EDC, but it depends what you'll be mostly using the knife for. I love my Snubby and it is my EDC.

Both are great knives! If you care about pocket comfort, get the mini 7. It has a significantly smaller handle over the 14, which actually has one of the bulkiest handles on the Emerson line-up.
But if you want overall handle comfort, definitely get the 14. Arguably has the most comfortable handle Emerson has ever introduced.

I don't find it bulky. It's definitely no Boker Trance but it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb for me either.

I'ma gonna go with the 7, as its better suited to being an EDC over the 14 as far as size goes. Both are great knives and have thier own merrits, its best to get both and keep the one you like the most; however if you only have the funds for one at the moment get the 7. I carry a version of the 7 (an HD-7) at least a couple times a week.

Humm am wondering is the mini-7 gonna dissapear? It seems the -14 is just a tad more expensive.

It really is difficult to pick just one. I say go for the 7 and work from there.

I should add that I do own both and a custom CQC-14 with a full length blade. I carry the custom the most because folded, it's the same size as a standard CQC-14 of course. No problems here.
It is bulkier than the Mini 7, but still rides well.

ok pulling the trigger on a mini 7 first. maybe later this month then the -14.

thanks guys!
