HI guys - I'm looking to add an Emerson to my collection I tend to favor mid-sized knives with 3.5" blades and 4" handles - but am willing to go a little larger (I have an Adamas for instance).

Any recommendations? If you could only have one Emerson, which one?

I like my CQC-7A, non-serrated, satin finish, no wave. Didn't care for the chisel grind so I modded that to a V with a Dremel (run very slow) and a bit of elbow grease. Good steel, doesn't hold an edge like D2 or S30V, but not hard to sharpen. Fit and finish are just about perfect, no flaws. This is a working tool, no frills, that won't let you down.

I have owned a large list of Emerson knives and have let them go for various reasons but so far the only one that has stuck around is my sheepdog (spearpoint sfs)

only 1 i'd keep the 8 first. but second the 15. third choice is the patriot.

all the others are great too, but these can do all for me.

If I could only have one it would have to be the Commander.

I like a lot of different Emerson's, the 7, 8, 15... but the Commander is always the one that gets the pocket time.

I'm at the same spot as you. I think I'm leaning toward the horseman.

Horseman is a great knife. Great handle length. Fantastic blade size and shape. Very slender profile in pocket. Bigger version would be the CQC-8.

Thanks for the suggestions guys - looking at them now. Kind of leaning towards the CQC-8

I'd say Super Commander.

Try to handle as many as you can. You'll find the one that's right for you. Some of the ergos will be perfect for your hand and some will just not be a good fit.

I own a horseman and its a great knife but i dont find the 8 too big. Its very slender. I never carry my horseman as the 8 can do it can and more.

I say a satin serrated CQC15. The tanto tip is a great piercer, the serrations kill zipties, cord and branches and the satin still looks good after a lot of use.

I've had an 8 and I own a Super Commander and a Journeyman also, but the knife I describe is my EDC for those reasons.

I had a Horseman and sold it, way too small. The 15 is perfect.

Horseman small? Now I'm worried. Anyone have a size comparison. I have a zt 0562 and a military, how does it compare to those. I have a buck vantage & paradigm, an endura, cs code 4.... Where does the horseman fall compaed to any of these. Thanks

Cqc 8 is a must have.

Fwiw I lost mine 2 years ago and without hesitation ordered a replacement the next day.
