First Emerson Suggestions

Had a cqc7v ....wish i still had it. Big time sellers remorse. I actually owned a few mini cqc7 s and wasnt too crazy about them. I figured Id give emerson one more shot with the cqc7v and now im hooked!

Thanks for all the suggestions guys.... looks like there are very few Emerson knives that I can go wrong with.

All great suggestions and I certainly vote for the 7. I think you (Kreyzhorse) simply need to figure out what style blade you'll like most. Can't go wrong with what's mentioned from everyone as you said. Happy shopping!

Well out of the four Emersons I have, my absolute favorite is the CQC-11. But who am I kidding, every last one of them is my favorite lol. My Super Commanders just a too little bulky for EDC but I'll stow it in the pack and carry my Mini 7 during a hike. And my CQC-13 is definitely no slouch. Anyways I plan on getting a CQC-7 next in jungle green.

I second the Commander as a first Emerson. It was mine and a good introduction to the beauty of Emerson blade grinds.

Many great suggestions to get back into Emersons but I'm another CQC7 guy (without the wave BTW). One more thought, which ever is chosen, use it a lot. I mean heavy, these knives just seem to like to be used and you'll develop the muscle memory and familiarity with it so it becomes an extension of your thoughts. When there's nothing to cut, I make feather sticks out of pine I keep in my office. It helps relax my mind to better deal with the sh!tload of intractable problems I face daily. Good luck with the acquisition Krezyhorse.

I would suggest the Commander. The Commander "DNA" is in many, if not most, EKI knives. It pioneered the Wave and it's influence can be seen in may of EKI's offerings now.

It will show you what is so great about the production offerings and you can expand from there. You will be hooked...

Commander ergo's are super seductive. Do you favor "pointy" tips? If so, the Commander line might not be the best option. The Gentleman Jim is fantastic in the pocket and hand, and it uber-pointy. In the mini's (other than Mini Commander, which is amazing in the hand), I much prefer the Mini 15 to the Mini Roadhouse due to the grip - my hand spills off the end of the Mini 15. My hands do not like the 7 line at all - don't like a "belly" on the underside of my grips, seems to discourage a secure grip feeling for me.

The 15/Mini 15 blade shape combines attributes of multiple Emerson blade profiles and is a FANTASTIC edc; I love how blade efficient (handle/blade ratio) it is, and how close to the blade the grip allows the hand yet with a very secure guard.

To keep it at 3" I agree with the bulldog and mini 7. However j would like to suggest the mini roadhouse. It has an awesome handle and a very usable blade shape for EDC. Honestly the grip is the best part of the mini roadhouse. You have to feel it to believe it

I'm with Ground0 on this one.

Mini Roadhouse, Bulldog, M-COM / Mini 7

Got the CQC-8 full-size for my first and I love this thing lol. First I picked up a zt0350 then a couple weeks later I got a CRK Sebenza 21 large then a couple weeks later I got the bug to get a Emerson. The other two knives I'm about ready to sell because the Emerson is getting all the attention. It's a knife that you don't have to worry about putting a scratch on it. Looks awesome and cuts like a laser!!!

Commander is emerson. I've had nearly all the models and have a few now. My favorite is the super roadhouse ,but you didn't ask me.

The commanders are really nice cutters but I prefer the full size or super with a recurve.

I like my patriot a lot as well. Iron dragon is nice as well IF you can find them, honestly though I like my linerlock emersons better than my Iron dragon.

Did the cqc-7v come with a black handle too?

I don't believe so but the brown g-10 is awesome it has more a strider feel to it. You'll warm up to the chisel edge regardless of models. I hated it at first but after using it I love it and I can get an emerson sharper than any other knife I own, on half the time too.

Ok, I lied. I briefly had an Emerson Horseman and while I didn't have issues with it, I just never warmed up to the chisel grind and traded it away pretty quickly.

Fast forward to now and I think I'd like to give them a second try. I'm currently in a small blade phase and I prefer a 3" blade +/- but I'm not adverse to 4" for the right knife.

I think the Mini Commander is a good place to start but I figured I would check and see what you guys think or suggest.

Thanks for you suggestions!

Iron Dragon. Done.
