First ESEE - I'm in love! One question - how do I attach it to my belt?

I don't mean to spark up an old thread, but I had a question that would best fit this thread rather than starting a new one.

I just picked up an Esee 3 in DT and love it so far. This subforum helped me immensely in choosing this as my new fishing/hunting blade, so thank you for that. However, I'd like to try carrying this knife horizontally on a belt or vertically on my backpack's shoulder strap. Does anyone have a good paracord lash-up method for doing this that they would recommend? Although I'm a fisherman and know my knots, I'm a novice when it comes to the wonders of paracord.

Any links to how-to's or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Simply run your paracord through the holes to create an x on one side and a few "belt loops".

Then slide your belt through those loops and use the cord lock to secure it. I usually throw an overhand square knot on the remaining ends to secure it all.

These pictures (reversed in the mirror) show the knife set up for a cross draw... my preferred style.

imo you can see the downside to using paracord (upside obviously flexibility) in the above picture pretty much in an exemplary way: the material is too soft to maintain a tight fit! the handle pulls down the whole construction and wobbles around.
now do that with a knife that sits really tight in the sheath (which it better should - seeing how this hangs down) and you have what i consider an uncomfortable setup.
what worked better for me - at least for smaller knives like those in the pictures are zip ties (of the thicker type that is). i admit that it looks somewhat cheap that way - but you can get a reasonable tight fit and still dont loose flexibility (as long as you carry some spare zip ties you can undo an refit in the matter of seconds).

seeing how many posts revolve around how to carry your blade show me that there's not a perfect solution out there though...

lover of blades, I always buy a nice leather sheath when I get an new ESEE knife. Never liked Kydex, and I am not an 'operator', so I go with aftermarket leather.

I never use paracord (or any other means) to carry the knife horizontally. The paracord belt loops when used to carry the knife vertically are extremely secure. With a good cord lock you can cinch it down without issue or if you really want a strong solution, put the knife on your belt and square knot the paracord, then just slide it off your belt and slide it back on next time.

This pic shows the front of one sheath (with the cord lock) and the back of another (which is knotted). Works great.

@ adaman04: yeah problems especially occure with horizontal carry. the way you wear those knifes might be more secure but i dont like to wear knifes that high in a vertical position - they tend to get in the way like that. at least for me... and yes, i know i'm picky ;)

At first I used the standard paracord method for vert carry of my 4. If you don't have a need for fast or frequent on/off, I think it's a great way to go.

Now I'm trying out the ESEE 5/6 drop clip plate attached to my 4's kydex. It has to be modded slightly to work with aligning the holes.

I've been thinking about picking up the boot clip made for the 3 and trying that on my 4. I believe it's a direct fit but it will ride high compared to the 5/6 drop clip.

My first blade is the Esee Izula.. LOVE IT!
My Junglas was ordered two weeks ago and it hasn't even been shipped yet. :(

Let me guess, you get yours from CRKS, too? Haha. If so, join the club. I've met at least 3 BF members who are undergoing the same experience with CRKS... Too bad, too, because I liked them.

But yeah, we got gypped. At least we know we've got one. Haha. Weeks away... Go Junglas!

Also, welcome to the Forums, and I'm glad to see another Washingtonian. (We have such a retarded nomenclature)

I don't have any issues with the loops being loose at all. and the knife stays put on my belt (doesn't slide like you would think, at least not for me).

But yeah, I don't like that the knife handle rides low.

I wish there was an affordable solution in leather with two simple loops, but I cant afford what most of the leather makers round BF charge. Shoot, while the work is GORGEOUS, the cost is almost as high for most as another knife! :)

No slam meant on our leather workers. Just my economic reality and sensibilities.

tell you what lover of blades i have an extra tec lock laying around and if you want it, its yours just send me your info and ill mail it to ya.
