I've never been too concerned about knives before, but started to get interested a year or so back, when I discovered that there was a name for an ailment I had: EDC. I started reading edcforums, and realised that a decent knife was something that I was missing, so I bought a little SAK. That should have been that. Done. Finished.

Then I bought a SAK Soldier, because it was the original, and I liked it.

Then I foolishly drifted around and started reading about other sharp and shiny toys, and heard mention of a knife company that put holes in their blades and had a really really loyal band of followers.

So, you know, I bought a Dragonfly, just to see what the fuss was about. That was a couple of months back. :)

A Centofante III arrived in the mail. Today! :D

Now I've found bladeforums. :grumpy:

Is there a cure for this... illness?

No, there isn't a cure, but don't worry, this is more of a benign condition ;)

Welcome to BF and congrats on your latest purchase.

chiba,
Welcome to the forums! We hope you enjoy your time here!

run....as fast as you can in the other direction....your bank account in serious jeopardy. in the name of all things holy......run.

MMM...cento 3 is a fine choice. I had mine for a few years.

Please check your pocket regularly, as there might be room for another one somewhere.

You can alleviate the symptoms by occasionally purchasing additional shiny and/or blackened steel objects, but it only works temporarily.

Actually , yes there is a treatment, though not a complete cure. Unfortunately its very expensive. . . It involves buying at least one of each Spydie. Unfortunately you will have a relapse every time a new one is released. Welcome to the forum and good luck!

Superb choice.

Centofante 3 is also my next Spyderco blade. I really like that one.

Unfortunately for me the Spyderco outlet is only 15 miles from my house! Welcome to the world of blowing your weekly food and gas money budget on knives. Time to get creative with ramen noodles and riding the bike to work. :D

my next spyderco will be the dragonfly in SE. my brain has been telling me that the dragonfly will give me my next spyderco fix.

That's no cure - that's more disease!

Last night I sat and surfed and played with my new knife. I think a lot of people probably do this. The purity of design and functionality make it a thing of practical beauty. As to pocket space for others, sadly I'm in Japan, so I basically can't carry a knife at all (well, the law says the Dragonfly would be OK, but it's a risk). Still, simply to own it, handle it and occasionally use it will have to be enough for now. :(

I may have to budget for another. I like the Adventura at the moment.

By the way, why is there a forum at Spyderco's site too? Is that more of a support forum?

No.
It is more fun.
By the way, Adventura is the great knife. I used to have two of them. Last week I gave one to a friend, he loves it also.

The Cent 3 is a great knife. I consider it the thinking man's Delica.

I have some advice for you though, only buy knives that you really like, don't buy knives that you think you need to have or to make money. There is no money in buying and selling knives and there are enough knives out there for you to never own all the ones you really like.

I started out buying whatever, just to find out what I liked. I think started buying knives that people raved about. I then bought a few to try and make money on. I made a lot of mistakes but that is half the fun.

I now know what I like. The funny thing is, after years of buying and trying out every possible knife, the Centofante 3 or 4 would probably be my choice if I could only own one. I carry the Cent 4 but the Cent 3 is just as good. It is really a wonderful knife that doesn't get as much press as it deserves. It is one of those knives that is more than the sum of it's parts.

You should start by buying the Spyderco Sharpmaker and making every knife in your house razor-sharp..
don't forget to gift your friends/family, too
welcome to the forums
