First extended family hiking trip!

Hey Geoff, shot you an email as well...

The tan Scout above has the two Liter Plus pouches attached to the sides which hold my 1 qt Nalgene bottles for a little perspective.

Here's my OD scout with an SDS pouch and 1 qt canteen on the back for another comparison...

The Nalgene pouch on the left is from Killer Gear (Matt Campbell)...a straight forward, but well built pouch: Nalgene Tactical Pouch

On the right side, it's a Paraclete Upright GP pouch...another well built pouch.

The padded hip belt also has a Parclete small GP pouch on the left and some small PALS compass pouch on the right.

I stuck this Camalbak bladder, the Hotshot in the Scout's small hydration sleeve (the longer one's won't fit), holds 72oz and fit just perfect.

I owe somebody else a few photos of the Scout and some different set-up pics. We currently have some students in the field, so I don't think I'll get pics taken this week...hopefully this weekend.

Rock,
I really like that Scout set up. Love to see some more photos of it.

Thanks for sharing. :D

Rock,
The tan Scout above has the two Liter Plus pouches attached to the sides, how do they attach to the belt?

Ron

Myakka, you're really making me need to get the camera out ;) As you probably know, Kifaru packs are covered in bar-tacked horizontal webbing that's spaced to allow vertical straps and or (in the case of the Liter Plus pouches), MALICE clips which weave through the hortizonal webbing...creates a woven attachment that is pretty solid. Both those pouches on my tan Scout are attached to the side of the Scout, not the hip belt. Hope that explains it until I can get some pictures posted.

Thanks Rock, but do the straps come with the liter pouches or do you have to purchase them separatory?

Thanks for the pics.
Questions:
Where do you get Paraclete gear?
Does the Scout feel awkward on your back without using the shoulder straps? (ie have you ever just used it alone as a butt pack?)
How is the build on the shoulder straps?

Great pics, again, thanks.

Looks like Photobucket must be down :grumpy:

Myakka, most PALS compatible pouches come with the required MALICE clips...and Kifaru sends there pouches with them.

Geoff, a loyal source I've used for a lot of gear is Lightfighter

There's a lot of good makers of PALS/MOLLE compatible pouches...plus a lot of opinions. Paraclete and Eagle(MLCS) are great quality, but expensive...Blackhawk Industries does have some good stuff in their STRIKE pouches, and better prices. Tactical Tailor is one I like to recommend as well.

If you use the Scout as a Lumbar pack without shoulder straps, it rides comfortably, but you don't want to overload it. I even tired it out that way with just a cross-body should strap, which worked okay as well.

The shoulder straps are lightly padded, and they definately give you more freedom of movement...something that was nice last year when hunting. I think I put about 35-40 lbs in the Scout and it wasn't uncomfortable at all.

Great pics and some awsome gears you have. Patiently waiting for more of your pics.

Cheers ;)
