First Fixed Blade

ESEE 3 or 4

or

BK&T BK 11 or 14

Really, if you consider yourself a man, you should own all four of those knives anyways :D

I would go with ESEE or Bark River. I have never met one of either brand I didn't like. They are a little more expensive, but here is my thought. You get what you pay for. Better coating, better steel, better heat treat, better grind, better handle materials and blade thickness, probably better guarantee. Ya its more up front but It will probably last you longer and will be better tool.

Im just sayin..

I've spent plenty of time drooling over Bark River knives, I hope I'll own one someday but I've already stretched my budget farther than I ought too, but your father is indeed a wise man. If I were to go with ESEE, I've convinced myself I'd go for the DPx HEST (that's technically produced by ESEE right?). I'm a fan of the brass hardware for their looks and the functionality of a flathead slot because right now I do not own any torx wrenches (if I end up with a knife that uses torx screws, rest assured I'll pick up a set :))

I definitely will end up with either a BK11 or 14 as well, I'd just like to try them in hand and then either sell or trade the one I don't like.

My knife want list goes as follows;
1. DPx HEST
2. Boker Mosier
3. ESEE Izula
4. BK11

I can get a DPx Hest for about $80 right now if I snatch it up soon which I don't want to miss out on as I'm pretty sure they're discontinued and it might be a while before my next knife purchase which is why I need a good all around knife. The Boker Mosier is just gorgeous and I would get that first if I weren't concerned about the HEST becoming a rarity. The Izula is compact, good for lighter carry and I figure I could use that as an accurate judge of the BK14 handle to compare with the BK11 I would like to eventually get. This list could be WAY different come the morning though, my head's been swirling thinkin about knives...I NEED THEM ALL!

I'd personally pick up a Izula 2 over the original. Slightly longer handle goes a long way in ergos and comfort IMO.

I'd put the iz 2 up against any and every necker on the market TBH

That's what I meant, I wasn't clear there. I live in a sub 3" knife market but no LEO is about to take a ruler to my blade, they go by the "rule of palm" which is why I've accepted the fact that I shouldn't go with anything bigger than 3.25" in length. The HEST hits a pretty nice sweet spot from what I can tell by the numbers, solid for the price, 3.13" blade and a pretty large handle. I wore medium lineman gloves when I played HS football, not sure how that transfers to normal glove size but I don't need a ton of real estate. Would you take an Izula 2 over the DPx HEST? I'm kinda bummed that it has yet to get a ringing endorsement, it's a cool little knife according to my computer screen but that can be deceiving.

I have the Mosier too. I love it but it's really more of a defensive knife and doesn't lend itself to different holds for utility tasks. I still carry it most days around my neck.

The CRKT Ringed Razel is one of my favorites and gets carried on my days off.

Which would you take overall? The Razel caught my eye, my only concern is a local law which bans double edged blades but in a dagger blade style, I feel as though this would fall mor along the lines of a tanto type blade which are legal here.

I love them both but for EDC I'd take the Razel any day. I like the sheath for the razel too, just clip it in my pocket and head out. I have a friend that got a razel too and he loves that it too.

I like the looks of the Hest, and the BK 11, but they may get hung up in clothing if you are concealing them. They both don't use a snag free shape

I don't really plan on trying to hide them too much. My usual dress shouldn't be a problem as far as snagging goes. Does a 3.25" inch blade extend past a palm? That's my only real concern, if that's not a problem, it looks like I'll be getting a BK11, there's been too much praise for me to pass it up as my introduction to the fixed blade world and it's a much better price than the HEST but it's still got a bottle opener...because that's what everybody uses their knife for, right? I do like that it can be used as a little prybar though too.

Sounds good. I may try one of those too one day. I have a Ontario Ranger Shiv with tan para wrap job on the way here.
