Im going to be trying to make a folder and was wondering if its a good idea to take apart a folding knife to use it as a patern. i have a old knife that i want to use but i dont want to take it apart if its worth money. i posted it another section here but no one has responder. here is the like it also has pictures of the knife. please let me know what i should do, thanks.

depends on what your wanting to build, a slip joint, linner lock, or lock back?

Ray rogers has a great tutorial on his website for linner locks, Chris Crawford has a good tutorial on a slip joint on Knife networks, there are others out there also.

I have taken apart cheap slip joints to get a pattern before, if nothing else it helped me under stand the relationships better.

I'd say you would be safe taking that one apart for a pattern, it's not worth much. That is how I learned to make slip joints back in the day.

Nice folder, I carried the same one for years. It's a good folder to use as a pattern, a slipjoint and a liner lock.

ya i also like it. im thinking about using it as a pattern but making it into just a single blade with a liner lock and slip joint.
