Wow - great start to 2012, Matt! The blade is typical Lamey awesomeness but the sculpted guard and handle are really nice too. That ash, by the way, is gorgeous - did you dye it?

yeah this year has to be WAY more productive then last, I was a complete lazy ass in 2011. Wulf, the ash is dyed with some of the custom dyes from Brownells, but its about the same as Feibings light brown.

Looks great. Nice rich, warm tones in that handle. I've got piles and piles of curly maple (the stuff practically grows on trees up here in Vermont) that I've been planning on doing some experimenting with using different dying and finishing techniques. I might just have to give some of those Brownells dyes a try.

Wulf, i will get you the item #'s for the dyes I use from Brownells, this is a blend of 2. My favourite thing to use on Curly Maple, Ash etc. is Chromic Trioxide but I am out of it at the moment.

Cool, thanks Matt. And let me know if you ever need some curly maple. I'll send you a whole log of it if ya need one

Matt, that's a beauty! I was recently admiring a good friends Flintlock Rifle with Curly Ash, I like it!

Matt have you ever Nitrate of Iron to stain maple or ash? I understand it works great!

I agree with Derrick - that's some real pretty wood. Attached to a ver nice knife.

thanks all, Steve ive never tried Nitrate of Iron, the Chromic Trioxide is a heavy metal Im wondering if it has the same net effect??

Very nice, Matt. Do you have to "toast" the Chromic Trioxide?

thanks a real clean looking bowie, sooner or later one of your 10inch bowies will be mine! your choice of wood is always immpecable!!

Jeff
