Now that I have a good forging hammer, I finally finished up my Godzilla jaws. Made of 5/8" thick titanium side plates and 1/2" thick titanium jaws with 1" steel hinges. Good, tight fit in the hardy hole. I know, steel would probably work better(and MUCH cheaper), but I have all these pieces of titanium with big holes already in them. If I get bored I might get the anodizer out and make it look pretty.

I can't wait to start my first hawk!

DAMN! That is a lot of Ti! I still would like to try my hand at forging a real sized knife someday, not just minis. have fun!

I hope the steel being drawn doesn't just dent the Ti jaws. Most drawing dies are tough steel at Rc 50 or more. The annealed steel being drawn is probably Rc 45-48.

Might anodize? MIGHT?

Fun!
I've had all the 4140 for a Godzilla for months now. Some day....

I hope it works. I have a titanium Katana blade that if I ever finish I MIGHT anodize. :D

I would be more concerned about the hammer denting the heck out of the striking jaw. It looks cool. I hope it works out for you.

If you have too much Ti burning a hole in your pocket, I can take some off your hands!!

I've used it before, but without the hardy hole. It really took a whacking and didn't dent much, except for a little on one of the corners. If I had had it in the hardy hole, I think it would have been fine.

Sorry, Ben, some guy in Hawaii already gets most of my Ti leftovers;)

Charlse/Zaph1: Sssssh, don't blow my cover, although I can't say I ever saw any stuff that thick. I'm still holding out hope for some Ti round stock to forge some tongs from.

Here's the guillotine I started from some 5140 dump truck leaf springs. Just need to drill out the shim. Didn't heat treat it yet. Guess I should, as I did bring it up to forging heat to straighten out the horizontal bars.

[Hijack] Xander: Did I ever show you pix of stuff the 9th graders made from the copper ingots you sent over?

Phil: I didn't send you any of it because it's such a P.I.T.A. to cut. I've got a bunch of the 1/4" ti tubing if you ever need more, about 25' of it. Was there anything in the "box of unknowns"? I need to put your 9th grader to work on making parts for a still! That's an awesome looking bowl.
