Let me begin by thanking all of you for the instruction, advice and humor that you pass on to newbies like me. Through the discussions of others I have been able to fumble through something that would have been all but impossible to do on my own.

Thank you all.

The post Blade recovery period seems a good time for introductions. So here goes…

I spend weekdays in Houston as a mild mannered desk jockey and weeknights hammering hot metal and learning to knife fight. Weekends are spent in Nashville with my wife and the KMG.

Below is my first real commission, an LSU-themed hunting knife.

Edge quenched 1095
5/32” thick at ricasso; 3.75” blade; 8” OAL
Tapered full tang.
Stainless bolster and pins
Homemade layered paper phenolic spacers (Muted Purple and Gold)
Lacewood scales cross-cut to show off LSU Tiger stripe grain.
Fully hand-rubbed to 600, then half rubbed to 1000

I would greatly appreciate any criticism, good or bad.

Thank you again for your time.

Great knife, did you try to bring out the hamon from the edge quench? I really am attracted to the curved spline, very graceful.

I did an initial etch to check it out, but the quech line was lower than I prefer and didn't flow with the knife... so I didn't emphasize it in the finishing.

Here is a pair that did work well though...

Made for a father and daughter to commemorate their first real hunt together.

Forged from O-1 round stock: 3/8" diameter for hers; 1/2" diameter for his.
3" blade; 7" OAL and 3 7/8" blade; 8" OAL
Edges brought to critical using MAP torches rather than the forge.
Mild steel pins
Handle material: Homemade pink paper phenolic; stabilized redwood burl

(sorry about the bad photo)
