Just felt like showing a blade I'm finishing up for a friend who wanted something special and more of a 'show' knife. It was forged from a giant wood rasp that was over a hundred years old and found on his grand-father's farm. It was edge quenched twice (for effect) in brine and showed interesting patterns after etching in feCl. It hardened nicely. The bolsters were forged from spikes I salvaged off an old steamboat while diving in Lake Erie. I didn't realize they were wrought iron until they started splitting.. but it looked great so I went with it. The spacer is birch bark and the wood is old growth maple salvaged from deep lake Superior. There is a guy where I live who salvages 'underwater lumber'. It was stained with leather dye and finished with tung/beeswax. Peened brass pins. 10.5" OAL
