Got me my first of the big Beckers today... Picked up a BK-10 from my favorite local toy store that I hadn't visited in months. Been fondling it all day. :D Had an Eskie for years, my favorite small knife... Got a BK-17 earlier this year, which I like... But this BK-10 is in another class.

As non native English speaker my head starts spinning with double negatives but bigghoss is right
"You can't not have a 9."

Yep, the 10 is a great knife, I love mine so far, now I have to agree with bigghoss.....you need a 9 :D

Sheesh, you guys! Just let him/her? enjoy the 10 for a little while before you start the haranguing, OK? Aloha, Hawk. I've heard the 10 is a great all purpose blade. Seems to be a favorite of almost everyone here. Coupled with your tweener, you've got the 1 2 punch, as it were.
Oh, about the 9. I'm guessing where you live, you'd be better off with an RBK or a Patrol Machete...... but I'll swim against the tide of consumerism here and just wish you pomaika'i with what you have. Enjoy!

Hey Mr. Hawk....

Glad you are liking your Nine........ Let us see some pix after you have had a chance to give it some 'dirt time' .......We would all enjoy a few pix from a sunny paradise to cheer us up here in the midst of a dreary winter.....

Thanks for buying Becker.....

I kinda like dreary winters. Or at least I would if it would actually snow here instead of just being so darn cold.

hawaiianhawk - Congrats on the BK10. I'm looking forward to getting one myself. Got one in a box that is allegedly in Oklahoma City. It shipped from my distributor in Missouri on Wednesday, got to OKC on Thursday, left OKC on Friday, then back in OKC a little after midnight... Apparently UPS has issues with bad weather!

Lots of good places to use a knife there also. I spent three years living on Schofield Barracks and working over at Wheeler AAF before I retired. Daughter in Girl Scouts and son in Cub Scouts, so we did lots of hiking and whatnot in the Kooalu. Good times, but too expensive to retire there.

granite - Let me ask a stupid question.... What is an RBK? I think I've determined that the RSK is the Doug Ritter knife that Ethan helped design and is sometimes called the BK12....correct? The patrol machete was made by Camillus as the BK9, but I'm coming up empty on RBK...

And, of course, it was inevitable that bigghoss would provided the usual recommendation. Wouldn't we be disappointed if he didn't?

If memory serves, it's the rainy season there right now. But still a lot sunnier and warmer than most of us stateside. Ice storms and snow in the last two days here in central Texas. I grew up near St. Louis, so I know (or at least used to) how to drive on snow and ice, but many native Texans don't.

Congrats on the 10. It is a great knife. I think it is the perfect compromise between the big ol beckers and the tweeners. It can do everything the 2 can but in a more useable package. Now I just need to grow a pair and take the ramp off mine.

RBK is Reinhardt (spelling?) Becker Kukri. It's in the database. The Patrol machete was the BK6 not the BK9. And I will not rest until everyone has a BK9. You can't not have a BK9. Every time you don't buy a BK9 the terrorist win. Do it for the children.

Thank you bigghoss for filling in. GSO1962, not a stupid question. And the RSK aka BK12 AKA "RSK MK II Perseverance" (lol, what a mouthful) is the knife that Doug Ritter and Ethan collaborated on. IMO it's more "Becker" than it is "Ritter", and is a close cousin to the 10; 6"blade with a drop point. I just got one, so I'll not be getting a 10 anytime in the near future. As for the last part hoss....*LOL*. You never fail to amuse.

Congrats on your new 10! These big Beckers are true workhorses, they take everything you can throw at them with ease.

That's it hoss; I am now making it my personal mission to prove the BK4 superior to the 9...as soon as I get one, lol. BK4life! BK4thewin! Just practicing my victory chant.

I must have had an "upside down" dyslexic moment....I could have sworn I typed BK6, not BK9... Maybe it's old age. I do personally have a BK9 on the way in the box that is still stuck in OKC, so I'm doing my part to help fight the terrorists. Your dedication to the cause is commendable...along with your ability to entertain.

I agree that the RSK/BK12 seems to be mostly "Becker" in design. Doug Ritter was smart enough to seek the source when he wanted to add a "sharpened pry bar" to his offerings. I haven't been on Equipped to Survive for many years, maybe even before Y2K (Yawn 2 K). Doug always impress me as having common sense (not too common anymore) and perspective, as opposed to a lot of the "Doomsday Prepper" types running around now. "Be Prepared" is always a good motto.

Well, that didn't take long.

The 10 is nice. Now you need a BK9. You can't not have a 9.

Hoss, if the shop'd had the 9 I probably would have taken it yesterday. :D It's on my to-get list, promise.

Heh. Mahalo nui loa, Granite. I know how it is, I get like that about other things with my friends. Yep, where I am a good machete is very useful coupled with a stouter chopper. My Kabar Kukri 'chete fills in pretty well just now... But I'm waiting for the rerelease of the RBK anyway. Loves me bowies, but also loves me some kukris. And I'm a him, just to be clear.

Thank you sir! Got me a 10, rather'n a 9, but it's a good partner for the 14 and 17 I already owned. I'll put him to some good hard use soon and show you guys when I do.

Howdy, GSO. Yeah, it's the rainy season right now but the last few days have been nice and sunny and hot and very humid... Perfect beach weather! (So of course instead I had work.) And it's supposedly been one of the five quietest hurricane seasons since the sixties or something this past year. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else, but yeah, it's easily one of the most expensive places in America. How'd you like it here and how long ago was it, if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks for the warm welcome, folks. I'm in love with this solid little pit bull of a blade. That's what it reminds me of, with the short clip and short but wide blade.

It might have a slight advantage in chopping, but the BK9 is surprisingly good at just about anything else as well. I'll probably get a BK4 for the heck of it and then I'll see for myself.
